That's a misleading argument.

Look at Nutt's 2006-07 season vs. Petrino's 2010-11 season at Arkansas and do your best to reason that Petrino's was that much better.

2006:
10-4 (7-2); first in the SEC West; lost a bowl game to a highly ranked Big Ten team.

2010:
10-3 (6-2); Second in the SEC West; lost a bowl game to a highly ranked Big Ten team

The only real difference in those two years is the loss to Florida in the 2006 SEC Championship game. Oh, sure, and the loss to a good USC team (notice, all of your losses in 2006 were to teams in the top-10... that's not exactly something to hang ones head in shame over).

The only reason y'all got the Sugar Bowl over the Capital One bowl this past season was because the East was down and Auburn went to the BCS Championship Game. In 2007, an LSU team with a better overall record (11-2) and head-to-head victory got picked for the Sugar Bowl over the SEC West winning Razorbacks. Call it a snub if you want (I certainly think it was), but the fact that Arkansas didn't go to the Sugar Bowl that year cannot be blamed on Houston Nutt. That's foolish.

Bowl invitations have as much to do with how well your team plays as they do with how well the rest of the conference plays. Placing all of the blame or credit on a coach because "X team went to Y bowl" is dumb.

So jack the guy off all you want because "WE DUN WENT TO THE SUGAR BOWL!!1" It's definitely something to be excited about (despite the loss), but know that folks who actually follow football 'n' shite won't take that argument very seriously.

I'm glad you don't. Some posters go overboard with those damned things.

Why are we comparing Nutts 7th season to Petrino's 3rd?

Nope...i looked. No connection. Miles had coached all of them atleast 3 years and the QB never played a down under Saban. Is 3 years not enough?

Someone said "NUTT COULDN'T GET TO TEH SUGAR BURL!!" as prima facie evidence of Bobby Petrino's superior coaching.

I pointed out that Nutt did coach Arkansas to success, purely from a wins vs. losses standpoint, similar to that of Bobby Petrino's. The whole Sugar Bowl argument is a flawed one because bowl bids are largely dependent on how well other teams in your conference do. Under certain circumstances, one can win a lot of games - hell, one can even win a divisional title - and not make a BCS game.

That's why the comparison was used.

This isn't an anti-Petrino flame. I'd like to have him as our head coach. I just don't think there's any good reason (yet) to proclaim his success at Arkansas as superior to that of Nutt's.

I hope you understand that our record was the same as LSU's before bowl games and that we beat them head to head.

I also hope you understand LSU got to 11-2 by beating a Texas A&M team that we managed to beat in the middle of our SEC schedule.

And might I add, if Tressel didn't have such a hard-on to beat an SEC team his top five players would have sat the game out...like our freshman receiver sat on a blocked punt instead of scooping and scoring which would have won the game for us.

So when you say LSU 11-2, Arkansas 10-3 please do a little homework before you spout beechnut juice from your mouth trying to make a weak point.

With that said, why are Arkansas fans so happy to be rid of Nutt and have Petrino whilst LOL Miss fans question the direction of their program in year 4?
