I hate Notre Dame. Period. End of discussion. I want to beat their brains in by 70. Biscuit planting Buerline in the turf at Legion Field was only the start of the reparations.

The AP awarded the title "after" the bowl game. The UPI awarded the titel "before" the bowl games. They changed that in 1973.
That is why so many felt Bama was slighted. Today, (like Notre Dame now) if a team is undefeated untied- like Bama was in 66, and another team decided to go for a tie in their bowl game, everyone would have voted for the 11-0 team. However, ND was voted the champion that year instead of bama.

I was wondering if that made this matchup a little more special for the older Bama fans on here. Does this championship game possibly mean a little more to you than others in the past?

Like you can't friggin believe.

I was there in 73' when they got amazingly lucky with that pass out of the endzone. Shocked us all. I still haven't completely gotten over it and I was only 13 years old. Yes, its time to set things right with those lucky baastuds.

Opposing fans really have no idea what it means to Bama fans to beat ND for a title

I just want to get that feeling I got in 2009 when Marcel Darius intercepted that shovel pass and then tossed that Gilbert kid to the wayside like a rag dog, spin move and TD.

When that happened, I knew that finally Bama is back, and is ready to kick some arse in grudge matches.

"Also, don't forget the AP gifted ND with a National Title in '66 when they intentionally played for a tie, despite the fact that Bama finished as the only undefeated, untied team."

Coach Bryant always said that the '66 team was the best football team he ever coached. That says alot!

How did the AP award titles then(66'), Before or After Bowls

Before. But the ND Mich. State game was in the regular season.
Also, Bama started the season ranked #1, and were the defending National Champs.

Not really. Has great national appeal but personally I don't care who the opponent is - only that we are playing for the title again. Beating Texas finally was nowhere close to the excitement of it being #13 - or a whole bunch for all the rest of you. Winning SEC title #23 was much greater than beating UGA.

I am not old enough to remember the games from the 70's, but my Pops told me plenty about it and you can feel the hate from him even today.

I was at the game in Bham in 1986 as a youngster and can say it is one of my greatest memories as a fan. Not a very good ND team, but the emotion in that stadium was incredible. I can only imagine what it will be like playing them for a MNC.
