Like I said in a thread last week (and was laughed at by everyone), Mallett has a chance to be first selected.

Then why give the playbook to each of them? So they can go tell the rest of the division what their plays are?

They may or may not draft one of them, but they are SERIOUSLY considering it (and leaning toward it), IMO.

Do you think they're going to memorize or photocopy these playbooks and sell them to the highest bidder? Players get traded within the division all the time, so this really isn't anything new.

I'm guessing the panthers have more than one draft pick

I HIGHLY doubt theyd waste the first pick on Mallett

Prob seeing in case he's still around

Yeah, what NFL team without a QB would want to WASTE their pick on a 6'7" QB with a rocket arm who has thrown for over 7,000 yards verse the best defenses in college football the past two years in a pro-style system?

Probably gave it to Mallet for purposes of deciding whether or not to pick him in the 2nd.

If the Panthers pulled of what the Chargers did when the passed up Vick and got a combo of LT/Brees that would be a coup for them.

Get say Bowers #1 and Mallet #33 that would be better than Gabbert/Newton #1 and whatever passrusher is there at #33

Mallett's not making it out of the first round and Carolina knows that.

After receiving the playbook Mallett proceeded to tear the pages out and smoke each of them individually...

I would trade down from the number one spot to a late first round and a second and third pick and pick Stanzi from Iowa. and defense positions

Excellent choice. If you really could do that, I would do it in a second. you get a couple of good to very good players with your #2 and #3, and Stanzi is a safe choice and truth be told, you are going to pay much less, further down in the draft, which pays for your two "extra" players. If you poke around, you may even find some desperado in love with some player, willing to give you a mid first round, and those 2 and 3.

I like this because there doesnt seem to be a clearcut number one pick. and they dont have a second round pick. Unless they wanted to pick PP which they prolly dont with a 1 pick.

I seriously doubt we'll pick either of the 3

Jimmy Clausen is not a franchise QB. All three of those guys are upgrades over him on paper talent-wise, and you won't have a shot at one in the 2nd round.

Drafting a QB will sell tickets and gives hope to most fans that they have found their "franchise QB", whether it pans out or not. Plus, a rookie QB's learning curve buys a new coach a good three years of fan faith before they start calling for his head.

Drafting a DE or CB is not a sexy pick nor a ticket seller so don't underestimate an owner/GM from thinking dollar signs here.

I remember you have said in the past that you thought Mallett would/could go #1. What are your current thoughts on Mallett and the other QB's as far as who will/should get drafted first?

I still think Mallett should be #1 if you are taking a QB , which is the position every 2-14 team should look to draft when they don't have a legit QB and Carolina doesn't (and neither does #2 Denver, #3 Buffalo, #5 Arizona, #6 Cleveland, #7 San Fran, #8 Tennessee, #10 Washington, #12 Minnesota, #15 Miami, or #16 Jacksonville---all of which should be on the horn with Carolina for a chance at one of these three premium QB's.)

-Mallett has better size (6-6) than Gabbert (6-4)or Newton (6-5).
-Mallett has a better arm than Gabbert or Newton and one arguably stronger than anyone currently in the NFL.
-Mallett has produced better numbers in a tougher league (in just two years) than Gabbert did in 3 years in a weaker league. (Newton doesn't even qualify in the college passing numbers comparisons.)
-Mallett doesn't have any mobility, and last I looked, neither does Peyton Manning or Tom Brady. Ask Mike Vick, Vince Young, or Donovan McNabb how many championships their feet got them.
-Mallett is a threat to score from his own 20 in one play (see LSU-ARK with seconds before halftime). In the NFL, PI penalties are marked at the spot where the foul occurred. With Mallett's hail mary's, a team always has a chance to score or could get another chance with the ball placed close to the goal line if fouled.

The white-trash/meth rumors are just that rumors and that's mostly because of his thick-tongued/urban accent. He actually is grammatically correct, he just sounds like he should frick up every sentence because of his accent, but if you transcribe exactly what he says, he surprisingly is well-spoken. Only a failed drug test or unpublicized illegal incident could keep him from not being drafted early, if not #1 overall.

Plus, I'm biased. The dude gets props from me for publicly acknowledging in the paper that he laughed at the "Ridin' Dirty" video I made about him.
