I'm more worried about who is running the athletic department.

Just a bad PR move. Let WSU make an announcement. Coaching searches should be done in private. Seems insecure.

First, that's likely 90 percent face saving which is SOP. Second, as much as I enjoy picking on Bammer there's nothing wrong with swinging for the fences. I just think they spent too much time trying to land Marshall which was a long shot to say the least.

The Vol in me is loving every minute of it but the basketball fan in me says 'dammit we need more coaching talent as it benefits everyone, including my Vols.' I suppose I don't mind being torn on this one. Don't even mind a good hire so long as we kick butt.

I've said it before but I do hope they upgrade their coach. Just not too much.

/way too rational comment

PS. frick Bama (just felt the need to counterbalance things )

This. There are good coaching candidates out there. You struck out on Marshall...well, you're not the only school to have done so.

No, I don't personally, he made a generic statemt and unless he said something that made us look terrible it doesn't really matter. We will get a decent coach on the end. It's not the end of the world where I'm going to hang on every word he says.

Most ADs don't make a statement like that. They just move on and let the actions speak for themselves.

Oh really?

""I want to remind everyone of what I said at the outset of this process: My only objective is to get the best person available to lead the Alabama football program," Moore said in a written statement. "I remain determined to bring to our program a proven head coach with impressive credentials."

What's wrong with that statement? Seems standard

Standard? Give me just one other example of a school issuing a statement on a coach that turned them down. I surely can't recall one.

Just weird.

I'm guessing that he took it personal when he decided to stay at WS.

Has Alabama basketball ever been good? Why in the world does ANYONE care about this?

It seems odd and makes Alabama look weak by coming out and talking about a coach that they tried to hire while they still don't have a coach yet. All that stuff should stay behind closed doors. No need for the public to know about it. It looks like they're catering to what their fans want to know instead of what looks good for the program, and, by admitting publicly that they were not able to hire a coach, it simply makes them look bad. I don't understand why any athletic department would feel the need to talk publicly about that. Heck, most athletic departments don't even discuss the hiring process/contract negotiations of the coaches that they do hire, let alone the ones that get away who were #1 on their board.

This isn't the Cam Newton investigation where you just deny until it goes away.

Everyone knows we were after him, everyone knows we didn't get him. Not a big deal, it certainly isn't the first time we've been turned down by a coach.

I agree that it's not a big deal that they didn't get him. That happens all the time. You don't always get your first choice. The part that I don't agree with is making a public statement about talks behind closed doors that never came to any kind of fruition. There is no need to publicly acknowledge that you didn't get your first choice. It seems a bit desperate.

Not sure which "proven coach with impressive credentials" wants to very publicly be known as choice #2.

.......and be in the shadow of that football program. They have an uphill battle ahead of them. The GM thing should tell them that.

Agree this was not a good move. I doubt it hurts us at all, because everyone knows we went hard for Marshall. But the point is, while it probably won't hurt you, it definitely won't help you. There's no upside in making this public statement right now.

Or the fact that he talks about VALUES in Alabama's worst pr week since Albert Means.

Eta. I forgot "Destiny", Updike or the lady that shot her son for pulling for Auburn.
