He is too good of a guy to be forced out.

man but all the hot names are gone right now

if you get rid of Richt who do you go after?

you can't replace Mark Richt with a Kirby Smart, you can only pull that if Richt gracefully retires

Do you think CMR has reached his peak?

I think CMR is a good enough coach to win a NC with, so no. He's not elite, but he's a good coach that we would have trouble finding a upgrade for if we fired him.

The AD has to make the decision that's best for the program, regardless of other outside factors. We're just as likely to end up in a UT-like clusterfrick as we are to find a better coach than Richt.

It is the gamble.

If you're the UGA AD, that gamble is much more likely to turn out negatively than positively at this point in time.

All have played for the national titles except for Richt.

This.

Firing him would be a PR nightmare with fans, HS coaches, recruits, pretty much everyone.

Absolutely! One that some UGA fans would love to take while the other half would hat it. He's been so close to a couple of championships and has consistently been pretty good. I would rather keep him and give him a chance.

If Richt finally wins a championship in the next year or two, would everyone quit giving him a hard time?

Name a coach better than Richt that is available. Richt has us poised to at least contend for the East title and or SEC crown yet again this season. Yet we should get rid of him in favor of who exactly?

you could find yourself in a Texas situation with this

"Coach we love you, but this shite is getting old..."

then four years later it gets real messy

Jay Jacobs got killed publically in the media for firing a coach two seasons removed from a BCS title.

No he didn't. Not one person I know of thought Chiz should return.

I don't remember Jacobs getting crushed either. Chizik had just gone 3-9 and had a team totally quit on him. Jacobs had no choice.

That has never happened with Richt. FTR, I was ready to fire him after 2010, but McGarity was a new AD and didn't take that step. Since then, we've won a lot of games, and the program is in a good place, contrary to popular opinion on the rant. You simply can't fire him now. It's not practical.

If I was AD, I would be too adverse to risk to fire him right now. There are cautionary tales (UT) and other developments that make you think it's worth it (AU).

Look at UT, they were just dying to get rid of Fulmer. This will be their 6th season removed from that staff and they haven't sniffed the East or even a New Year's Day Bowl. They aren't winning the East this year either.

You could look at AU after firing Tuberville and say, yeah, let's do it. But AU's good fortune cannot be understated. Chizik was a terrible hire. If Cam Newton doesn't step on campus to join a team already loaded with seniors then AU is in deep shite. IMO Bama, UGA, LSU, etc were close to burying AU for a few years (similar to UT), then Cam happened. Not every team can fire their coach and expect to get a player like that. Then you fire Chizik only to hire Malzahn who benefited from yet another JUCO QB in Nick Marshall. And it still took two of the wildest plays in SEC history to win the West.

Point being, if AU keeps Tuberville, but still landed Newton and Marshall, then something similar to what played out in 2009-2013 probably still occurs. But AU just as easily could have fired Tuberville, never landed Newton or Marshall, and finished with under 10 wins for AT LEAST 5 years, if not more.

But I'm sure AU fans have no regrets and have enjoyed the ride. And I can't really blame them for that at all, obviously.

At the beginning of 2010, a ton of UGA fans were done with CMR. The 2012 season did a lot to heal that.

I believe Mark Richt has underachieved significantly at Georgia but there is no way an AD can fire Richt at this present moment unless he pulled a Bobby Petrino tonight.

largely agree

and really he's had a couple bad years in more than a decade. that would piss me off as a fan but hopefully I'd know better than to fire him
