2. A one-loss Alabama making the top four is a joke

No. 4 Alabama is the only one-loss team that cracked the committee’s top four, but its selection is a bit of a head-scratcher. The Crimson Tide lost to an Ole Miss squad that has since dropped two games of its own. Meanwhile, they boast only one win over another team in the current top 25 (No. 19 Texas A&M).

Is Alabama really a top-four team?

Why is it better than No. 10 Florida, which is also 7–1 but lost to No. 2 LSU and beat the Ole Miss team that topped the Crimson Tide? At this point is feels like coach Nick Saban’s team isn’t penalized for losses like other programs. Alabama could go on to win the SEC title, but the selection committee is supposed to assess the landscape of the season up to this point. That’s why ranking the Crimson Tide as a top-four team at this juncture doesn’t pass the smell test.

Sports Illustrated is melting.

This is getting embarrassing.

ETA: We're ranked number 2. We play them in a few days. Get the Bama dick out of your mouth and act like you've been here before.

If Alabama wins this week they deserve to be in the top 4 If the lose they'll be kicked out.

Happy?

why. do. you. care?

If you win this weekend, it will bump Bama out of top 10 and you'll likely not have to hear them as a factor in playoffs the rest of the year (unless some crazy 2007 scenario presents itself).

You do realize that it will actually HELP LSU to play a top 5 team, right?

Can you imagine what it's going to be like if they lose Saturday night?

Solid pre-melt. 9/10.

The only thing missing is a mention of Ritter and/or the officiating crew.

I posted this at like 3 am this morning, I don't see what the problem is.

I certainly want LSU to beat Alabama, and believe we have a good chance to. The fact that Alabama is #4 will make it a more valuable win for LSU, should they win it.

This is not bad news for LSU. I do believe that the SEC gets more respect in the eyes of the committee, and rightfully so, we play a thing called defense in this conference.

Alabama has an elite defense this season up to this point. We can bring up the OM game and the 43 points, but let's not fool ourselves about how those points were scored.

I believe it is unique that this committee takes into consideration the growth and the gelling of a team, as opposed to just the record.

In my opinion Alabama is growing and gelling. Tennessee is a talented football team, they just haven't put it all together yet, and I don't really know if they ever will.

We don't have to make every post from a homer mentality, it's okay to speak honestly. This should be a hell of a game, Alabamas D is for real, our offense is for real, and our D is pretty good also.

I'll ask anyone this, if Alabama was 7th in this ranking, how many teams ranked higher would you honestly favor against them in a head to head battle? if you were betting money? Maybe Ohio State? LSU? Clemson? Those are the only 3 teams I would give a decent chance to beat them, and I wouldn't put money on it. I left Florida out of the "decent chance to beat Alabama" because I don't believe at this time they have the offensive fire power to beat them, that could change.

At this point, everyone calling every gripe a "melt" is getting fricking aggravating.

It's a legitimate gripe, and it just so happens to be about a team that's in our conference, and who we happen to be playing this weekend. This is an SEC discussion board correct?

SEC fans aren't the only one's who think Bama in the top 4 is a joke. It's about the integrity of the selection committee.

evidently the admins think all the threads are jokes considering they keep getting anchored.

Maybe the 300 threads started about the useless poll have something to do with people saying melt. And wait until late Saturday night. You haven't seen aggravation yet.

Asks the guy with the urinal as a profile pic...

LSU's strength of schedule is positively impacted by playing a team in the top 4. If LSU wins, they'll likely move up to #1 in the polls. This means that if Ole Miss slips up (which they likely will to either Arky, LSU, or MSU), then LSU can afford a loss later and still likely be in the top 4 .

Nick signing on with Bama literally ruined LSU fans lives. They have not seen a minutes peace.

I couldn't care less what some Rick Reilly or whoever else at SI thinks. I will however, listen to people like Tom Osborne and Barry Alvarez who are on this playoff process.
