It seems he just wanted to coach at a school with an offense that could compliment his defense. Good move on his part.

Cool.

Looks like we saved a lot of money for a better defense.

The issue wasn't about the yearly amount, it was about the clause...

Nah, it was that exquisite new Kyle Field menu. The offense saved his arse last season

Looks like Chavis will be paying for Steele's salary. That's awesome. This will be a great recruiting tool for LSU too.

You guys are a tad sensitive, it seems. I did nothing but post a fact.

Really? What's your hypothesis about why he'd turn down more money at LSU to make less at A&M?

No hypothesis needed. As has been known all along, Chavis left because of the Miles clause in his contract. Here is a direct quote from The Advocate, you know, the Baton Rouge newspaper you Aggies love to read to keep up on LSU:
quote:

Chavis refused the $1.8-million-a-year offer during a meeting with Miles and Miles’ lawyer in the team’s hotel in Nashville, Tennessee. Chavis had decided weeks beforehand not to return to LSU because of a contract dispute involving a clause in his contract.

But great job. Little bro hired away one of LSU's coaches. I can certainly understand why Aggies are always starting threads about this.

Guess we have to have multiple threads on this non-issue, but again:

Don't know why this is such a big deal

1. He had already decided he was leaving

2. It was always about the clause and disrespect and never about the money

3. The article says "Les Miles offered" him. Alleva would have never actually signed off on it, unless Miles has authority to do that (I'm not privy to his contract). In any case, it was never a Les Miles wanting him back issue, as that was well documented. It was always an issue with the administration

4. I can't believe I'm even addressing this, but if anything it disproves the constant "A&M outbid LSU... LSU poor" rhetoric aggies spewed all offseason.

Y'all really need to just move on and enjoy the windfall. LSU fans are content, as our A&M fans, deservedly so. For being fans of a pretty respectable academic institution, you guys aren't the best critical thinkers.

I wonder how many threads we can get started about this

eta: I could not care less about this anymore. The season has begun, aTm's defense has looked improved with a strong showing from the DLine and LSU completely shut down MSU's run game and only looked to slow down in the pass rush due to fatigue.

Should be a good season for both defenses.
