Seems kind of far-fetched but stranger things have happened. Like Chavis blowing off his duties and loyalty to his team while having phone sex with aTm.

Yep, it always comes around full circle to those "mean old Aggies" persecuting LSU

You want Smart at LSU? Running the whole show without Nick pulling the puppet strings?

Yes I would be perfectly fine with that. I think Smart is more than capable of running a defense without Saban.

This is going to be all gumps excuses to cope with the DC jumping ship like LSU fans have used 3rd and Chavis. That is of course if Smart leaves...which I doubt happens.

And if he doesn't take the job he will soon go back to being a chump who can't wipe spit from his own chin and only has a job cause he is Saban's little buddy.

Imminent as in how long it takes me to get a pizza? Or imminent as in compared to how long it takes LSU to get a second rate DC?

LSU to get a second rate DC

Let me ask you a question regarding LSU since you are all things LSU... If Smart were to come to LSU, do we now have a 2nd rate DC? The same DC that called the plays in the 59-0 victory over A&M?

That would absolutely be a home run hire compared to what is going to actually happen.

Although 59-0 is an outlier, and more of a reflection of A&M's team rift and quitting than it is of defensive play calling....

My response would have been "get a DC. Then we will determine the secondratedness of said DC."
But that is only if I planned on responding.

Smarts next gig is a Head Coach.. Why take a step down and be LSU's DC?

This. The man wants to eventually get a HC gig, and he has all the tools in the world to stay successful and keep his stock high at Bama. Not saying LSU doesn't have the tools on defense, but Bama's offense saves their defense much more than LSU's offense. The only logical reason he would leave Bama and come to a team like LSU is to prove the naysayers wrong when they talk about the Bama defense being Saban's defense.

Look at it this way.. Out of the given pool of available candidates..

How many names are bigger than Smart? Any interested candidates with better resumes?

Defensive coordinator/assistant head coach title and a small raise. Runs nickel as his base D and shows the CFB world he can stop the spread. Stock increases and he leaves LSU in 2 or 3 years to become head coach at Bama (or Georgia or promoted at LSU) More fuel for the eternal melt.

maybe even a "coach in waiting" title for after Miles gets LSUs all-time win record

The only thing most Gumps would be concerned about would be recruiting. Other than that it wouldn't be any different than the OC changes.

HC in waiting.

Chavis main issue was the Miles clause. That's why he left. You can't convince me that he and Miles haven't had discussions about Miles' future. Chavis knowing Miles leaving or retiring within a couple years would leave Chavis without a binding contract.

If they offer Smart 1.4 and Head coach in waiting at LSU....would he be smart enough to take it?

With 3rd and Chavis as A&M's DC. That would mean that LSU has surrendered to Daddy A&M.

He'd be smart enough to get a raise at Bama out of it.
