There are whole sororities filled with nothing but women who want to date corps boys.
I lived in H-town 15 years after graduating from LSU. I think this definitely true. I knew a couple of former CTs, and I dated 2 aggie chicks. They both were in different stages of getting weaned off of CTs. I helped.

FWIW, I married neither, and they eventually married non-Aggies.

I'm pretty sure that 66,000 number people keep quoting is for the entire system. I can't find numbers for Fall 2016, but as of last year:

quote:

The Fall (2015) University total enrollment reached 60,826 students. College Station campus enrolled 55,092
students, 90.6% of the total.

LINK

I seriously doubt the College Station campus grew by 11,000.

Also:

quote:

Undergraduate enrollment makes 76.6% (46,575) of the total student body. Doctoral students constituted
33.4% (4,766) of the total graduate and first professional student population (14,251).

Around 46.5k undergrad is right on par with the sips and Michigan. "The university is growing too fast (or too big)" meme is one of the most overly dramatized bits of nonsense among our graduates.

That puts the corp of cadets at less than 1% of total student body.

The figure cited is for the entire system, minus Qatar. College Station campus is 60K and change.

I love the band, I like the corps, I just think their media exposure is misrepresentative of the actual university.

Of course it is. But the cameras can look anywhere they want. They naturally gravitate to the Corps because it is different than anywhere outside the service academies. The bullshite about placing them in front of the cameras is just that - bullshite. If they moved, the cameras would move. I was not a fan of Corps block seating... until I saw how much it upset civilians. And now I'm all in.

No joke. Thanks for stating this. The numbers widely reported are not what's on the main campus.

----------

I had a couple of friends in the corps, didn't see them all that much outside of class usually. One buddy from my small high school class wound up as a Yell Leader. That was always a fun time hanging out with him.

Additionally, and this will seem very odd to other SEC schools but the frat population during my time there (mid to late 90s) was also really, really, small. Like 5,000 people out of 40,000. It was pretty damn nice.

I don't agree with this. Would we still have some CTs show up on camera because it is a unique aspect? Yes. But if it weren't for the Corps Block grouping them all together and making a spectacle out of them, they'd show up on camera much less often and the balance would be filled by hotties.

So not all cadets go into the military? Did I read that right somewhere on this thread?

I guess I thought it was like a&ms ROTC type program. I guess not if it has no real military commitment after graduation for most.

About half of them do. You have to make the decision at the (end?) of your Sophomore year as to whether you are going commissioning track "Contract" (and therefore need to start taking the military classes) or stay in as a Drill & Ceremonies (D&C in A&Mspeak) cadet.
