It says that the outside perception of him driven by those who want to play up controversy isn't shared by those on the team, which is a good thing.
He's a hot-head and a trash-talker, and it's getting him in trouble, no doubt. He needs to control that better. But he's also an extremely fierce competitor, and an extremely hard worker. That doesn't get play in the media, but his teammates see it.

I've played team sports before and TBH you can't pick your teammates. As long as they aren't douchey to their fellow players then they are probably OK with it. What should te players do? Defect from the team?
