Ou of curiosity...Saban pulled 7 straight #1 classes. Why does Auburn struggle to get better than 10th? I mean, Auburn is closer to all the talent in Georgia and Florida. And Saban got the first #1 class before he won a National Championship at Alabama.

Freeze didnt know where the bodies are buried in Alabama. Thats important leverage to have. Its Fulmer UGA needs to worry about.

There's a well-established correlation between recruiting and success. With numbers and ampersands and all sorts of official-sounding stuff. Championships are won by good recruiters. Having a great coach gives you an edge over other teams with good recruiting (see Saban) but Auburn won a title with Gene fricking Chizik at the helm. And it wasn't just Cam -- one man cannot carry an entire football team the way one man can in basketball -- and it wasn't just Gus -- Gus' offenses aren't exactly world-beating examples of domination. It was the collection of talent that did the lion's share.

Honest reply? Gus isn't half the recruiter Saban is. Just that simple. And saying Saban got it before he won the title at Bama is disingenuous. By that time, he had won a title at LSU, coached an NFL team, and could have conceivably claimed some credit for the 2007 NC. He wasn't a fresh-faced coach trying to stir up excitement to cover for his lack of credentials.
