Actually in our conference we were fourth behind Texas, OU and Nebraska. Even Colorado boasted a more recent national title and OSU had Oregon's facilities before Oregon did.
The old Big 12 was always underrated, that is what sucked about it. The SEC learned the lesson after Auburn got fricked and built a huge hype train that we were happy to hitch a wagon to.
I don't mind admitting A&M fell behind in the Big 12, we were a bad fit from the start. At the low point Tech almost passed us.
But now thanks to the SEC brand and a new basis of comparison (that we hold up better to) we leap frogged every old Big 12 team on the recruiting trail.
