Someone would need to pay BIG money to get MLS to bham. OTher regional cities would get first crack(Nashville/Charlotte/Raliegh-Durham/NOLA). Although it would be helpful to the MLS if they went to a city/state with 0 pro teams.

Can they fit a soccer field in the Marlins' stadium? that should be a no-brainer if yes.

I dont follow MLS, but I do go to a few games. I rememebr a couple years ago i was invited to go to a Dynamo game. New stadium so I was pretty excited about checking that out. I get there and realize that it is the playoffs. haha. Fun time but I wish the scored more and I wish the clock ran down, not up. Stoppage time is stupid.

The MLS would never approve that, at least on a permanent basis. They are trying to get away from that sort of thing. The new New York team is going to play in the Yankees' stadium, but that's only until their new soccer specific stadium is completed.

And I hope they have such horrible attendance that they disband or move the team in 5 years.

yeah. im just alluding to the financing of that Marlins stadium and the mess around that.

Beckham would need to pay for the stadium by himself in order to get it built

rooster, once again your Mizzou obsession backfires, it would be real healthy for you to just breath deep and not worry so much about Missouri.

I thought SCAR was the only program in the conference that carred about men's soccer.

UK has a men's team as well.

Cause soccer is for them fancy-pants who speak stuff other than English and waste time doing stuff like reading books.

What's wrong with soccer? And what's wrong with supporting the United States in the world's most popular international competition?

I am in a Deep South state, think this is awesome, and woul be there if I could. Nice attempt at a troll OP but didn't work out for you this time.

If I had trolled you would know it douche bag.

I happen to be a big time soccer fan as well - and, as I stated, SCAR is the big soccer school in the conference and oh, btw, there is yet another Gamecock playing for the US this year as usual.

ETA: Is the stadium that they are watching the game in over in Kansas City,KS??? That's where the pro soccer team plays, in Kansas.

Yeah, at least I think that is what I heard. I just caught the tail-end of it on the radio this morning after taking my grandson to school but I was hoping maybe one of the Mizzou fans knew more.

What?

Brad Guzan, Mathis and Wolff take the Gamecocks back to "wat" 2000 or so? 2002 maybe? I dunno, I don't remember but long enough, longer U.S. team representation than anyone else I am aware of around here.

It would be awesome if men's soccer took off in the SEC. Imagine tailgating in the spring every Saturday. Would be fun.

Agreed.
Good times.

None of those players were on the 2006 squad? I agree USCe has had great USMNT representation, but I don't know if you realize Clemson and Furman have had just as much or more.

It needs to happen. The SEC needs to get fully on board before it's too late.

Right now SCAR and KY are having to carry the load for the conference but sooner or later soccer will be demanded in the SEC and it is going to be very very tough for the conference to adopt it and excel at it overnight. It'll take decades, even though most schools have club teams already going.

I sure hope so. At the same time, I am glad we are getting away from college soccer as a path to the pros.

Clemson and Furman ... yeah, of course I do. Doug Allison played at SCAR in the 80s, is one of our better Gamecocks, and he was an assistant here too in the 90s when my wife and I were big boosters hosting dinners for Mark and helping to support the program financially.

I hope Doug replaces Mark one day. I remember the day Mark arrived here like it was yesterday. I was having lunch at The Big Bird and he and the new swimming coach came in and sat down with me.

And also yes, Ibrahim at Clemson is a living legend. Not sure about Noonan yet but I.M. Ibrahim will go down as one of the greatest. And the taterheads certainly have had their fair share of great ones.

But no, as far as Furman goes, having Clint Dempsey does not constitute a better World Cup history.

Agreed, but honestly it was the women's game that brought about those changes. They were/are way past due.

The state of SC has been a strong soccer state since the late 60s to early 70s. It caught fire in this state well before other southern states to the best of my knowledge. I remember when the NASL was formed and all the hoopla that followed here in SC.

We've (TAMU) got the following in spades for our women's team.
Wish we had an NCAA men's squad as well.
It's a fun as hell sport to watch.
Perfect for tailgating.
