I just definitely remember the talking heads having their minds blown about Nolan's substitution patterns.(5 in 5 out) They were calling it the platoon system back in the early 90's.

You realize their minds weren't really blown by it, right? They just need shite to talk about. Same as now. Tom Davis was doing the platoon system at Iowa around the same time. Westhead did it in the 80s at Loyola. A coach at Grinnell did it before that.

The 90 team was a better team they had better players and could run more sets. You had 3 1st rd picks on the 90 team. They also had 2 POY's (Day and Miller) 2 AA (Day and Mayberry) the 90 team was better at what they did. They had a better 6 and 7 (Miller and Huery)

The problem the 90 team had was scheduling and they couldn't handle Laettner in FF as Nolan brain farted and tried to match Howell with him. Which why Biley started in 94 Finals (length)

Howell was the key to that 90 team and he couldn't match Abdelnaby or Laettner

That and the KU game in Charolette is why you saw him always get a true big man afterwords.

Also the 90 FF had better teams than the 94 FF in the 90 all of the 4 could have easily won it. As Arkansas had already played Vegas on NYE in Vegas so no intimidation.

Any of the championship teams from the 90's would destroy this UK team. Bball has gone way downhill since the glory days.

This.

Play has went downhill since the 90's. Too much one and out. I do not think the current era could hang. And if it was 90 era rules with hand checking and all, the current era would be on the bench complaining about hip checks and elbows.

Disagree very much. I think this era has brought in a bunch of very talented players that lopsided the field. A lot of players of that caliber rarely whiffed the NCAA at that time because they could have went straight to the NBA. This is a young Kentucky team, and it's dominant because it's very talented. All of the players could return if they wanted to (they won't, IMO), and could be that much more dominant next season.
Coaches don't complain about the quality of their teams, Cal will tell you that the 2012 team may be the best he's had (and he's been coaching for a long time, coached some very good teams in that time).
I think coaching philosophies have had to adjust, but to think that the quality of players mystically downgraded is just silly.
Sounds more to me like you have a case of nostalgia.

State had just beaten Kentucky for the SEC Tournament Championship. That was an excellent basketball team that took a couple of months to come together. By the end of the season and the postseason, they were amazing.

They for up on Syracuse something like 17-5 and suddenly and inexplicably, their point guard, Marcus Bullard starts throwing the ball out of bounds, dribbling off his knee, etc. He literally throws the game away. All momentum is lost and Syracuse comes roaring back.

Bullard never plays another game for State, gets arrested on weapons charges, and bounces around for awhile.

I think that someone got to him. Just a theory, but it was like he was throwing the game.

State-Kentucky in the final in a rematch of the SEC tourney championship would have been a great game.
