Good post. With Tennessee I'd argue we have no clue what our actual talent level is but we do know we still have depth issues. Last season was the biggest comedy of errors I've ever witnessed. I don't have any expectation of being a contender but I also think things were so erratic and undisciplined last season that it's hard to assess what we have.

While I appreciate the effort, I don't think some teams should be labeled either. I think to be a pretender or contender, your team needs to have halfway decent expectations. I think when you have a brand new coach, you're not ranked anywhere around the top 25 and most expectations have you around .500, how is that a "pretender"?
I think the only teams that should be ranked in either category are Bama, LSU, TAMU, MSU, OM, UGA, UF, USC, Vandy and Mizzou.
JMO.

Appreciate the offer but no thanks. The 2010 game was particularly annoying to me though because I was the lone UGA fan with a bunch of Gator grad friends of mine (I live in FL). There was a lot of shite talking throughout that game, so it sucked to lose. The last few years have helped though

Sorry, but nobody is going to put Vandy in a neatly tied box. We were our own worst enemy for decades. Opponents did not beat us, we beat ourselves. If that culture is behind us (and I hope it is) the sky is the limit. No so-called SEC pecking order is going to stymie our aspirations. If Ole Miss, MS State and KY are listening, they should adopt the same attitude.
