But your conjecture of why Arkansas isn't a final Top 5 worthy finisher has merit. Yes?

I keep hearing this. His last 2 seasons he went 10 - 4 and 8 - 4. Winning the west in one and a 3rd place finish (where CBP always ends up) in the other. Nutt left CBP in fairly good shape.

Jack Crowe left Arkansas in better shape than Nutt.

It's not like Oklahoma St. had prime recruits to choose from. in 2002 there were 12 recruits in oklahoma with 2 stars or more. 35 in 2003 and 24 in 2004. And the vast majority of those recruits were all 2 stars. And Oklahoma St. had to compete with Oklahoma and Texas for those recruits.

In 2008 Arkansas had 31 2* or higher, 27 in 2009, 29 in 2010, and 35 in 2011.

Now if you want to break it down by 3* or higher Arkansas had 43 from 08-11. While Oklahoma had 29 from 02-04 (there is no 01 data but I think it's safe to say there were fewer than 14 3* recruits)

Which state has a poorer recruiting base?

Why is this turning into a recruiting discussion between Oklahoma State and Arkansas? Neither state is known for their recruiting base, but if you are going to try to make a comparison between the two, at least make an honest one.

Trying to compare recruiting website evaluations from a decade ago to today is not a fair comparison. The websites are much larger now and are able to analyze and rate many more players, so the number of players with stars has increased. If you want to make a fair comparison, make it between both states over the same time period.

Comparison between 2*+ between Arkansas and Oklahoma between 2008-2011:

2008
Arkansas - 31
Oklahoma - 45

2009
Arkansas - 27
Oklahoma - 73

2010
Arkansas - 29
Oklahoma - 62

2011
Arkansas - 35
Oklahoma - 59

This shows me that the talent available in Oklahoma is actually much greater than that of Arkansas.

That being said, I can confidently answer your question that Arkansas has a much poorer recruiting base.

And the 2001-2004 Big 12 was pretty good.

As I said before, Les won 3 games over the 4 year span against ranked opponents. He had a better recruiting base and an easier schedule, yet his best result was 9-4 with a loss in the Cotton Bowl.

Our program was in shambles when Petrino came in and then you throw on going from a power run system to a passing system and you just had a recipe for disaster.

I think we started something like 17 freshmen. 23 or so played.

Why is this thread still titled "2012 Coaches Rankings?"

That's not what it's about.

It's funny that you lsu fans always say how terrible Arkansas is and we could absolutely never win anything worth mentioning yet Petrino had us in the top 5 in the country last year. So, to answer your question by most of your fans own admission YES he gets extra points for winning at Arkansas.

Yeah, and Boise has been top 5 too! Arky rode the Bama LSU wave. Oregon,WV were much better than Arky last yr as were Wisconsin,Okie lite,Southern Cal,FSU and several others.
I will be surprised if Hogs don't lose at least 3 games this year. How many ranked teams have they beaten under Petrino?

I could coach an offense in the Big 12 and be in the top 20 in the nation on offense. They don't play defense. Also, I just looked at his schedule over those 4 years. Do you know how many ranked teams he beat over that 4 year period? 3. Color me unimpressed. Like I already said, Petrino is in a much more difficult location in a much more difficult conference with an exponentially more difficult schedule, and all of this in an area with a poor recruiting base. Oh, and if you are trying to compare his success at Arkansas to Miles at Oklahoma State, I hope you realize that the best Miles could do over that time period was 9-4 season with a loss in the Cotton Bowl.

Miles was coaching at the number two school in Oklahoma while Petrino is at the flagship school in Arkansas. Miles beat highly ranked OU twice. What big game has Petrino ever won as coach? He won't play Arky State.Arky's rival is Missouri State!

We can just strike those 2 wins v. Arkansas as a ranked opponent because to LSU fans, Arkansas didn't deserve to be ranked at all. So Miles and Petrino are even in that category.

I'd give any body part to be a part of your decade long, storied program.

LSU has won a conference title in almost every decade in SEC. Look it up! Hogs have never won a SEC title in 20 yrs and finish each year in bottom half of conference in recruiting so a long shot to win one in the next 20. Hogs have only 9 bowl wins in their history!

Let me guess... we made up the ranking in the OP as well, right?

Isn't that why LSU fans are in this mutha to begin with?
