Shula did one of his worst coaching decisions by leaving in Prothro which let him get hurt

If I remember correctly, that's the only time the entire team has went to celebrate with the student section after the game.

Shula was stupid not to pull the 1st team. He should have learned after Brodie's injury the prior year when we were up 52-0 on Western Carolina and Croyle tore his ACL. I didn't understand some of the criticism we got when he was fired either. ThE success in 05 was in large part because it was a very senior laden team. Guys like Croyle, Charlie Peprah, Roman Harper, Demeco Ryans, and Le'Ron McClain who went to have success in the NFL. Well, not Croyle. He sucked badly.

That's not really fair. He had two big things going against him (1) those were some terrible Kansas City teams (10 wins in 3 years) and (2) I really Brodie Croyle could get injured sitting on a bench in a butterfly garden.

In the few games he started, he played reasonably well but I don't think he ever managed to go more than 2-3 without getting hurt again.

Shula repeatedly tried to run up the score on teams and got players injured. In 2004 he left in Croyle in the 4th leading 52-0 against Western Carolina and he tore his ACL. Later that same year he left in Ray Hudson in the 4th leading big against Kentucky. I will never understand why he did that nonsense.

This was an exciting game but Florida was down. I also knew this would be the biggest win of the year since you could tell there wasn't much talent out there. We played about 4 or 5 hands that came up aces but this team was really a 6-7 win team at best.

Also, it was early 4th qtr if I recall. A couple years before we had Arkie down 31-10 to start the 4th and lost. TOday, yea we take out the starters. Back then we couldn't ever believe we had a big enough lead. Shula took a lot of heat but Florida had moved the ball and as Arkie proved no lead was insurmountable against us. What if he takes the starters out and Florida scores 2 td's in the next 5 minutes. It's 31-17 with 6 minutes to play and our Offense has mailed it in. We had to get one more. I would have done the same that day.

If Shula attempts the FG, Prothro goes on to have a successful NFL career, odd how life works out

True. And if Prothro isn't injured then Bama may very well win games against LSU and/or AU that year, play the next and we may have been stuck with Shula.

It was the 1st possession of the 3rd quarter and he tore his ACL half jogging out of bounds. I can't blame Shula for that.

Maybe not on offense but that defense had some incredibly talented guys on it. Heck, 3 of them are still starting in the NFL when healthy.

LB Demeco Ryans - 10 year NFL veteran, NFL DROY, 2x Pro Bowl, 1 All-Pro

S Roman Harper - 10 year NFL veteran, 2x Pro Bowl

DE Wallace Gilberry - 10 year NFL veteran, 167 NFL tackles, 31.5 sacks, 7 forced fumbles

DE Mark Anderson - 7 year NFL veteran, NFL All-Rookie, 197 tackles, 36.5 sacks, 7 forced fumbles

S Charlie Peprah - 5 year NFL veteran, 195 NFL tackles, 8 ints, 17 passes defended

I was there as a student and I don't remember them cheering. However, I do remember a couple of florida fans spitting off the upper deck onto the crowd below. It was just a couple of younger guys doing it, certainly not the whole lot of UF fans there, but it is still associated with UF whenever friends talk about it 10 years later.

That was a special game. That day, Bryant Denny stadium housed one of the largest gatherings of criminals outside of prison walls ever.

What a great idea for a drinking game...watch the replay and every time a convicted criminal touches the ball, drink.

i remember prothro walking out of the tunnel at the 2006 iron bowl, over a year later, and he was still limping heavily. even as a barner, that gave me goosebumps and a lump in my throat. the kid was an absolute BALLER and he had his career taken from him because of idiotic coaching
