I can't speak for everyone, but where I live weekends are planned around "the game". I don't know many people that aren't planted in front of the TV if the UGA game is on.

The Falcons are forgotten, even when they are good. It's just different.

The Rose Bowl. No better venue in any sport. And it belongs to college football.

As I've gotten older I prefer Sundays and NFL. From childhood until about 23-25 I was all about Saturdays.

I'm a Falcons fan but there is zero comparison b/w a USC game and a Falcons game. NFL is a slickly marketed product and you very much get that feeling at a game. CFB is more authentic.

College (SEC) football is way better because the fans are way bigger diehards. Even the loud NFL stadiums like in Seattle will come back down to earth the moment that they lose a few games.

In college, rosters change dramatically every year so every program always has hope.

Since the players are all talented but immature, upsets can happen in any game and things like momentum and home-field advantage actually matter. This adds an emotional level that the pro's will never have.

Honestly I shutter to watch some pro games because it's so brutal you're basically watching a bunch of guys get broken down till they won't even be able to walk. Favre's last season was like a public execution tour.

NFL games are essentially meaningless until around week 13. Not to mention you have 10-6 teams winning the Super Bowl.

The only way i'll start watching the NFL is if they put a team in Alabama.

In addition to that, in a lot of ways the NFL guys are almost too good. I know that sounds weird, but they are so good and practice so much that it almost becomes predictable and in some ways boring. In college football, although they are really good, I think you get more of the unexpected and entertainment in part because they aren't almost perfect machines performing out there.

It also helps, for me, that not everyone is an Auburn fan. Granted, there are plenty of non-Falcons fans in Atlanta, but the SEC diversity is much greater. Makes it more fun. Now I don't know how this is in a place like Louisiana where everyone likes the Saints and LSU.
Shreveport is a LSU city, but pulls hard for the Dallas Cowboys.

I still like the NFL and watch plenty, but there is something about college ball that pushes it over the NFL.

Aside from the traditions and school loyalty that surround the college game, for me it is the variety.

For the most part, the NFL is the NFL. Some teams like Philly and Seattle are showing some diversity but for the most part you're going to see pro set, pocket passing, and a sprinkling of the run game.

On any given Saturday, college teams will be running an almost unlimited variety of pro sets, spreads, wish bones, etc.

IMO the NFL has a better on-field product. The guys are all absolutely ridiculously talented and games (even between teams that I don't care about) are entertaining. There is a much higher percentage of college games that just are not much fun to watch.

And yet, the simple truth is that I doubt I will ever love any pro team in any sport anywhere nearly as much as I love Auburn University. The teams represent universities, they are not just corporations that jump from city to city. The fans also help make it special. With few exceptions, college fans are just so much more die-hard than pro fans.

For me, going to a Saints game is a fun event. Going to an Auburn game is a combination of event, family reunion, college reunion, and a trip back into my childhood. I am genuinely grateful to be an Auburn alum and to get to watch Auburn play ever year. I know many of you feel the same about your schools/teams.

Didn't read the link, but I don't need too. If you are a real southerner at heart, I believe you prefer the college game. Not that I dislike the NFL at all.

The wider hash marks, more variety of offenses and defenses, one foot in bounds, tailgates, history, etc. It used to be the NFL often followed the innovations of the college schemes, two point, conversions etc.

Now the college game seems to be following the pros especially with safety issues. I feel like the game at both levels is losing something, although if you question safety you look like a total arse these days.
