I agree with that partly. He did start our down hill slide but the inept hiring of the following coaches (Dooley, Butch) where the main reasons. Dooley and Butch are some of the worst coaches that the SEC has ever seen.

I'm a Bama fan and an SEC fan. I don't buy into all the hate that gets spewed here. Dubose turned out to be an awful hire. Recruiting way down which in turn lead to recruiting violations. Francione bolted before more sanctions would be levied. No one will ever know how Price would have done because when he got to Bama he decided to use his Alabama credit card at the Tit bar. Shula IMO did a decent job at Bama under the circumstances he inherited. He was a scape coach to get them thru probation.
I like to see all SEC teams win ( unless playing Bama of course).
I really like Coach O and the inthusiasm he brings, but LSU Administration sold the fan base short with hiring him as the Head coach

They hired a nobody to run a pretty well developed program just because he was a fan favorite cuz he was "family"

as someone who wanted Dubose the fact he played for Bama was just lagniappe. I wanted him because he was a damn good defensive coordinator

talk about stallings - fired twice - before bama & won a nat championship

Yep, we took a chance there, but it turned out he was just what we needed at that time. Who knows, Coach O could be just what y'all need, only time will tell...

Our most curious job search was the one before Stallings though. We hired Bill Curry...and while he wasn't bad by any stretch, we could've had Bobby Bowden (according to Bowden's own words) and we passed. Would've been interesting to see what Bowden would've done at Bama...but if that had happened, things would've probably played out so differently that we'd have never had Stallings or Saban so I guess it worked out better in the long run...

He was the D coordinator as well as the D Line coach in 1996. Dubose had taken over for Bill Oliver

In defense of Mal Moore on the Shula thing, Alabama was a shite show around that time. Dubose had been caught shagging secretaries, You had the whole Logan Young/ Albert Means thing ...should have gotten you guys shut down. Then you bring in Franchione and when he finds out about the extent of the frickery that was there at the time...he bolts faster baster than Usain Bolt to TAMU. Then you hire Mike Price who was getting extorted for his behavior with Florida strippers in the Spring of that year, the fact that Moore was able to land anybody with any level of credibility was pretty amazing.

That was a good thing. They didn't know what the hell they were doing.

Yeah, except Mal apparently didn't do his homework before hiring Price, because his behavior was the same in Pullman.

Technically Bama didn't pass, they had the "audacity" of asking Bowden to interview, which he thought was beneath him.
