In 12 games
5.5 ppg allowed
Only allowed 2 rushing tds
35% of completed passes
Only allowed 8 tds all season
Gave up 180 ypg
Best defense of the last 50 years.

Ehh, I still think OJ's defense was better.

Was this the team where they were quoted against PSU in the Sugar Bowl: "You better throw it," when the Lions had the ball on the Alabama 1?

Probably the GOAT trash talk ever.

$100 that any team from today could beat them by 30 plus

That was 1978. The 79 team beat Arkansas in its Bowl game.

Any smart fan knows you compare
accomplishments not actually team to team from years apart.
American Army of WW2 could beat cave man army using clubs and rocks. I bet you $100 on that.

No way, dude. If clubs and rocks are the weapons of choice, Neanderthal army would whup American man army's collective arse.

Especially with the roster limits in place today. Back then, bama had 125 or so on the team. Their entire "tradition" is built on cheating.

"Fusina came out to look at the ball,'' Bama tackle Marty Lyons recalled, "and I was standing in the way, in between him and the ball. He started smiling. ‘How much is it?' he asked. I told him, ‘'Bout this much.' ‘Ten inches?' ‘Yeah,' I said. ‘You better pass'."
On fourth down, the Nittany Lions tried to muscle it in again, but Guman ran into Krauss.
"They had called timeout before the fourth down, and they were trying to figure out what they were going to do and what we were going to do,'' Krauss said. "We thought they'd go outside or throw because they had run it on third down (to no avail), so I had given myself a little more depth so I could flow to the outside. When he gave it back to Guman, and he came back inside, there was a hole. He saw it, and I did too."
The collision was one that, as Krauss remembers it, made time stand still.
"He came over and I was able to hit him,'' Krauss said. "After that, I wasn't sure what happened.''

UT's defense went from 1938 to 1940 (iirc) without surrendering a single regular season point.
