I was 4... that's why Tennessee is in the minds of recruits as a second tier school. Most recruits are younger than me (I'm about to be 22)

I was 11. I remember watching the game with my family.

Worst national champion of the BCS era imo.

Undefeated, and several subsequent national champs had 1 loss. So, by any objective standard, you'd be wrong.

Finally got a QB that could beat Florida, I guess.

In the UF game that year at storied Neyland Stadium UF threw for 370 yards, but had -19 yards rushing, several sacks and 5 turn overs.

Jamal Lewis ran for 90 yards on 18 carries and FB Shawn Bryson had a 64 yard TD run from scrimmage.

Al Wilson was not going to lose that game. He caused 3 fumbles.

Al after the Arkansas game. I met Al. Great guy.

I left a friend's house after the Fiesta Bowl to go home. I had consumed a few adult libations. Blue lights in the mirror. The cop went past me and pulled over another guy.

Probably until they see the facilities.

Every major division school has good to great facilities.
That wasn't a shot at your program, that's just what teenagers my age and slightly younger than me would see because of the fact that the powers of college football are different now than those of our early childhood. Back then, alabama was a terrible team. The ones my age (I'd be a senior in college if not for having to leave early to help take care of my sick mother) and younger see the alabama's of the world, the oregon's, Ohio state, etc at the elite programs of CFB, rather than the tennessee and Nebraska's of the world.

UT has some good intangibles. Knoxville (and Nashville) are on major interstate routes. They are real cities in their own right, not college towns like Athens, Tuscaloosa, Starkville, Gainesville and so on.

Knoxville is a convenient location to most of the east coast. So that can appeal to many potential players. And the parents are going like that too.
