Well, if we're going outside the SEC, the most famous 4th quarter NC play has to be 4th and goal at the 5 for Texas against USC.

The most famous 4th Q NC play is and will always be the BS pass interference call against Miami when they played Oh St.

LOLWUT

It's definitely Vince Young's "4th and National Championship" and it's not even remotely close.

Maybe Miami stopping Nebraska on the two-point coversion in 83 or 85 or whenever that was.

That was Teague. That's still probably the most incredible play I've ever seen. Lamar Thomas was the fastest guy on Miami's team and Teague ran him down like he was standing still.

Teague said in an interview later that he had over the top responsibility on that play. He knew if Thomas scored Stallings would have lit in to him hard. He said, "he was running for a TD, I was running for my life".

I heard another story but I'm a little fuzzy on the details. Basically, Teague and Lamar Thomas were at some NFL event and Thomas introduced Teague to his parents as the guy who cost him millions in the draft.

Naw. I think you just have to be old.

Sugar bowl. I think Barry Krauss knocked himself out stopping Penn State QB (Blackledge?) at the 2.

Was a great play by a great player.

The forced fumble by Bama at the end of the Texas NCG was huge, too, though probably not as well remembered

Play didn't stand. (Called back for offsides.) Good individual effort, but doesn't technically qualify.

The frick it doesn't qualify. I understand it was called back, but if he doesn't track him down it is at worst their ball on the 10 or 15 yard line or they score. That would have given them momentum, instead it pretty much took any will to compete they had left.

People who aren't Bama fans may not have ever heard of "The Goal Line Stand" but chances are they've seen this picture.

I wasnt alive but SEC football runs deep in my family. So ive heard it mentioned over and over i finally looked it up a couple years ago. Pretty impressive.

ETA: yes ive seen the pic but it doesnt do it justice. its wasa multiple plays, multiple stops at the goal line. This Aub admits SEC FB was played that day.

Even if you hate Bama, you should probably know about the 1979 Sugar Bowl.

Before Saban showed up, it was the national championship Bama fans would always bring up when they would pine for yesteryear.

I don't think it was the first 1 vs 2 bowl game, but before the 1990s, it was probably the most famous of such games.

USC and Wisconsin played in a 1 vs 2 Rose Bowl, but that was back in the day when they gave trophies out before the bowl game. USC had already won the national championship.

What about Bama's third FG in the BCSNCG vs. LSU right before the half ?

Mussberger: And he spun the ball beautifully.
