You would love it. Georgia fans and LSU fans get along really well and are pretty much the exact same from what I have noticed going to Athens. We can get profane towards the Auburns, Bamas, and OMs of the world, but UGA and LSU have a secret love for each other... Not to mention the game atmosphere is unmatched, assuming its a ranked night game matchup.

FWIW, we really enjoyed '12 road trip to Auburn.
Jordan-Hare had a nice traditional old-school feel about it.
The people were very friendly and tailgating was pretty good......

LSU deserves #1 - that is a great atmosphere

11/5/11 in Tuscaloosa was awesome. Old school buildings and campus and stadium reminded me of TigerTown and DV somewhat.
People were generally friendly and tailgating was good (except for the caged corndog on a string people :)
Awesome Pre-game banter and tension built up to an even more tense game.

I was just talking to a buddy of mine that works for ARSN(Arkansas Razorback Sports Network) this morning, he travels with the team to every game.
He said that in his experience there is a reason why Alabama is #1 they do everything right as far as atmosphere, tail gating, pregame ect.. Right behind them and a very close second is LSU (he did tell a funny story about pulling up to the stadium and making a b-line for the stadium before their fans could surround them while chanting something in unison about figs) still even with that he ranks them at a close #2. He said Auburn was up there but their stadium and fans with a little brother syndrome kind of take away from the experience. Surprisingly he said he was disapointed in Athens which I found surprising too after all the good things I had heard about it. Florida was in the same boat. At the end we were talking about wishing the hogs had a more centralized tailgate area and the way things are so spread out kind of takes away from our tailgating.

LSU is a whole thing. Hard to argue. It's what we do.
Georgia is pretty awesome imho. I like the campus and stadium a lot.
Bama has a great game -day "feel". A really good cfb vibe.
Auburn is good once you are in the stadium.
Aggie is martial, humorless and bland. Stadium is impressive though. But too "organized".
UF is the most intimidating and rude to visiting fans. When they are great you lose this game and feel like you were in a dryer for four hours..

My only gripe about 11/5/11 is that it felt like the town shut down after the game.

But damn, what an atmosphere that was. The stadium was packed an hour before kickoff.

If Tennessee had been a contender recently we would be in the top ten. These list focus on teams that have been winning of late.

I can't stand UT but that being said I would agree with this statement. I've been to Neyland a few times and it's a pretty rockin place to be on gameday, inside the stadium and out.

oh please. For a big time game it's just as good as any other SEC school. Obviously no school should be judged by their noon kickoffs against new mexico state..but a primetime ESPN kick against a big rival and we're up there with the rest.

not to mention the unique and picturesque stadium, beautiful campus, wonderful scenery, etc. Even if we didn't have a downtown, our overall "game day atmosphere" would still be near the top.

quote:No prob with the list... Have you ever been to a game at Clemson?? Outstanding atmosphere, awesome tailgating, rabid fanbase, nice campus, hot chicks, 80,000+ at every game... Yes and I wasn't that impressed the two games I've gone to. Mind you, it's not a bad experience, I'd go again. I think it is an SEC-lite experience, and while I wouldn't argue with it being ranked fairly highly, I think it should be behind all of the notorious SEC tailgating schools.

How does the conference affiliation affect game day atmosphere? You have a confirmation bias for SEC on everything.

I appreciate your honesty.

One disagreement though....Auburn may be Clemson without a lake, but Clemson is in no way Auburn with a lake.

my thoughts...

- Nice to see Bama move up these lists. The town of Tuscaloosa keeps improving in many different ways. Downtown is getting better and better with drink and food options. Probably has a lot to do with our growing enrollment. fanbase is getting younger too which adds to the fun. Music scene is getting better. Dave Matthews Band played there just a few weeks ago. this may upset Auburn fans but Tuscaloosa will soon be close to the level of Athens in terms of great college towns. that is what happens when you have 40,000 students and a growing metropolis. sorry Tigerinmiami...
- LSU is my favorite game day and stadium. Night game at Tiger Stadium is awesome. every time I go I see something fun and crazy. last year I went to chimes to watch the game from the bar(had upper corner tix). after Bama pulled it out an lsu fan turns around and starts urinating on the floor. I think that shite is hilarious.
- There is nothing remarkable about Auburn. fans can be really douchey. They have a complex about them. good gameday though and the stadium is good/well designed. but the tailgating/town are all meh to me. Put it this way, other than roll trees/wires, they don't have anything that stands out about them. no central tailgating area. no great bar area.
- Did oxford last year for Bama v Ole Miss. Undoubtedly the biggest game of their modern history. great time. the grove did not disappoint and the Friday before was a great time. Stadium needs to be bowled in though. definitely a must stop for any decent CFB fan. only remark I have about it is it is a pain in the arse to stay there. seems like there are no hotels(I stayed with a friend in Oxford but hotel issue is what I noticed) and the campus itself is shot off in the middle of nowhere.
- I always thought Texas ATM was overrated. The new stadium may change that for me. there is a cult atmosphere tho. the cheers are kinda ridiculous. It seems like you are trying to make the game a sideshow. don't bother tailgating for a September game - too hot. Northgate reminds me of Auburn. good bars and the people are pretty pleasant. at least the ones that don't try to sway the convo to "how great ATM is in everyway, and we have oil money."
- UGA is an awesome town. although the fans seem more relaxed to "football success." takes out the intense attitude that I feel at Tuscaloosa and Baton rouge. it all kind of reminds me of Texas fans. Happy enough to be hanging in Athens/Austin enjoying the lifestyle of things. If we win, great. if not oh well we have a great town/lifestyle. I think it is properly ranked.
- never been to florida. surprised it gets as much hate as it does.
- Have not been to Tennessee when they were good. Neyland stadium is awesome tho. I don't get why people hate on it so much(lose some weight people). Knoxville is pretty unremarkable for a decently big town. But I think that is because a lot of the creative types in the area, the ones that make a college town fun and quirky, go to Nashville or Asheville.

other places I have been...
- Iowa. THe atmosphere in general reminds me of Ole MIss but without the grove, and replace the bowties and boat shoes with hooded sweatshirts. good stadium and the kids will party.
- Michigan. Sucks in general. The stadium is big but not imposing. I went before the improvements were made so maybe it could be better nowadays. I also went right after they lost to App State(Oregon game) they got stomped by O and may have affected my judgment.
-Texas. first game with new coach and you cant even sell the place out. Everyone is more concerned with the social stuff of the game than the actual shite football taking place. there are some real issues for Texas laying ahead I think.

I went to a handful of games in tuscaloosa between 02-06 (buddies that went there) and I coudl say the same thing. Let's all go to the quad and get drunk. May or may not even go in the game, depends, not sure yet. Win or lose, whatever...let's head to the tooth!

If UGA's football team had the same last 5 year run that bama's had, I assure you the atmosphere would be a bit different. You can say that for any school in America though. If you're elite, the atmospheres will build up.

I was a student during that time.

I know what your getting at. a lot of fans were waiting for that big win again. Every time we were close it was agonizing. Once we finally did it against Florida '05 the stadium almost fell in on itself.

But I know what you are getting at. At one point the football futility was comical.
