Most hated rival: There are no two ways about it. It’d be Auburn. One time, I wore an Auburn hat when I was about four years old, and my grandfather spanked me for wearing it. How about that? I was wearing the hat to be cute. I think I was being kind of a smart-arse. My grandfather took it seriously, and he gave me a spanking. I mean he didn’t beat me up or anything. He just popped me on the bottom and said don’t wear that again. I said “absolutely, yes sir.”

I appreciate everything about Emmitt Smith and especially fulfilling his parents wishes that he graduated UF ( during the recruiting battle with AU ...which he was a Gatorade National HS Player of the Year)
The best RB UF ever produced soon was John J. Williams from Palatka...so multi talented as receiver, blocker Zone of the very best and runner. Very unselfish....moved to FB/RB to let Neal Anderson shine...a little known fact is that UF in the mid 1980s had a stable of RBs...we had FOUR first rounders...all of who had great careers in the NFL..Lorenzo Hampton had shorter span because of an injury after being with Dolphins, Neal Anderson replaced Payton with Bears, James Jones (13 yrs) with Detroit and John J. with Seahawks (12 yrs I believe) BTW Tom Petty is Gainesville boy too.

Was kind of excited to come across Todd Gill. He's a great guy and one of the folks who run the Fayetteville Flyer here in town.

Who is the group Alabama a fan of, Bama or Auburn?

Cool article. Thanks for sharing.
Another good one for Auburn would be the guitarist for Manchester Orchestra, Robert Mcdowell.
We grew up together and his family are HUGE Auburn people. His sister was at Auburn a few years ahead of me. He did not attend (bring the jokes) because he dropped out in HS to start touring with the band.

He parks his bus sort of in front of our Cockaboose when he is in town for the games. He always goes-in through the player's gate and he rarely peeks his head out anymore, before or after games, because so many people want to take pictures with him and he can cop some attitude about that at times.
I actually know him and am on a first name basis with him because of his old Myskin's Tavern days down in Charleston ... it's been twenty plus years.
Oddly enough, Widespread Panic (Jo Jo) used to play down there all the time as well. Both bands recorded live cuts out of there in the early 90s ... I'd say between October '92 and March '93. The two bands are actually pretty good friends according to Darius - I remember, I think it was Jo Jo, being a guest of Darius for a game over here a few years ago.

I know over the years there have been several American Idol finalists saying they were Auburn fans, and one from Bama that I know of.
