FWIW, I never said he couldn't be shitty, just that it would shock me if we replaced him. It's not happening IMO unless the season is 2010ish. That ain't happening.

He could be bad, he could be awful, who knows. What is a FACT is that with Cox, in his only start prior to 2009 he was so awful he was benched in the first half. He never got a significant snap again until 2009 so he was a huge question mark. Mason has played in 2.5 full games including 2 on the road. We know far more about him than we did about cox.

We don't know shite about Mason except that he is inconsistent, does not throw a great deep ball, but was good in short to mid-range passes and is somewhat mobile. He has been great at moments and utter crap at others. We may know more about him than we did Cox, but we are a far cry from knowing enough about him to say he has no chance of losing his job.

quote:

Well that is simply hyperbole. Nobody, anywhere, ever said Joe Cox was going to be "just as good" as the guy who just got taken #1 overall in the NFL draft

Where the hell were you? I know it is hyperbole, but you apparently weren't on the Internet if you think people didn't say that. Almost every UGA board had a contingent of guys proclaiming how great he was. Usually the argument was something like "Cox doesn't have as strong an arm, but he is more accurate", blah, blah, blah.

It's unbelievably relevant. The point is that if we had (in this hypothetical, made up scenario) a TFR version of stafford, we may have gambled and thrown the young guy to the wolves. Fact is we didnt' have anyone better, and the most talented guy on the roster (Murray) was hurt the first month. My point is that Cox HAD to play.

No, it is still unbelievably irrelevant. It is your attempt at creating a straw man. The argument is not "who on the depth chart will replace him?", it "can Mason be bad enough to deserve to be replaced by someone?".

The fact that Cox HAD to play does not have any effect on whether or not he was bad enough that he should/could have lost his job, all it means is that it didn't matter how bad he was, the coaches weren't taking him out. That is a very different situation than we have now.

What in the world have you possibly seen out of ramsey, bauta, and park to think they have earned a start?

I could ask you, what have you seen out of Mason that has you so convinced that he is cemented as an impossible to beat out starter? What I've seen from at least Ramsey is way more physical talent than Mason has ever had.

quote:

You also don't see every minute of practice like the coaches do. I'll trust their opinion over message board fodder.

Yeah, the coaches have always made a point of putting the true best players out there and not the most senior *cough* Knowshon *cough*.

quote:

This is your worst point you've made yet. He's a "huge talent"? Ok, and? Stafford was the most gifted QB talent we've ever had in UGA history and he flat out SUCKED for his first 9 games. You don't have the slightest idea how ramsey does behind closed doors. Oh but he really lit it up in G-Day though..

Let me rephrase so you can better grasp the point. Ramsey has more talent in his pinky finger than Mason and Bauta have put together. It is completely asinine for y'all to act like there is no chance he could take the starting job from Mason. Is it likely? Not with our coaches. Is it possible, though? Absolutely.

quote:

56%, 2600 yards, and 24 touchdowns is pretty good. If it wasn't for Murray obliterating passing records left and right it'd look even better.

Hmmm...guess we just define "very good" and "decent" quite differently.

quote:

What about Richard Samuel fumbling a kickoff? What about the refs calling a BS PF on Reshad Jones late in the game to seal the loss?

You really want to argue that those things had more to do with the loss than Cox's inability to engineer a scoring drive after the first series? If the game had come down to a couple of plays, you may have a point, but it didn't. Our offense didn't do a damn thing after the first drive and when that happens you put that on the QB.

And I said I don't expect him to lose it, just that I could see the possibility. Clearly the rest of you have a much higher opinion of Mason than do I, though don't take that to mean he sucks IMO.

I just don't see him as DJ Shockley 2.0.
