I see where you're coming from. If you grow up in Arkansas though, you've heard the call your whole life and it doesn't seem weird at all. And when you're a kid, hearing 70,000 people do a chant in unison is pretty fricking cool. I can see why non Hog fans might think it's lame.

A lot of things changed in 1909, however, when Arkansas football coach Hugo Bezdek claimed his team played like “a wild band of Razorback hogs,” after guiding them to a 16-0 victory over LSU on October 30, 1909.

Just another century...

Unless said chant is "the calling of the hogs". It's ignorant and dumb!

This is the only reason people should be hog fans.

YW. I knew everyone would love it.

And I'm still waiting to hear why calling the hogs is "ignorant". Somebody doesn't know what that word means...

now usually I'd let you get away with this but the fact A&M is in the conference now I resent you calling it a yell. It is not led by 1950's milkmen with crewcuts.

I do have a serious question for hog fans if they will field it.

Does wild hog/razorback meat actually taste like pig, or are you taking a few liberties licking your chops over bacon references?

I've never had it.

The best answer according to Yahoo users is:
quote:

Very good to eat. Just try not to shoot the larger boars, sometimes, not always they have a rank smell and taste. With pork, I've found it is best to gut it as soon as it hits the ground. And skin it before taking it to be processed. If it is a little distance to the butcher shop, you need to pack it in ice. To make it fit in an ice chest you may have to quarter it up. Pork, unlike deer, tends to spoil very very quickly. If you kill a large boar, when you get home take a small piece of ham meat and put it in a skillet and fry it up. If the odor runs you out of the house, don't bother about processing it. But you can actually tell when the boar is on the ground if he has a real strong odor, don't even bother with processing him. But if he just smells like a hog, he will turn out ok. I don't really know why the odor is so strong sometimes and sometimes it isn't. But it may have to do with mating time.-dumdum

and there you go
