At this point, I'm starting to wonder if he's even worth having. This much drama in a hire indicates future drama, imo. There's playing the game for the best contract you can get and then there's this.

What is the drama from Marshall exactly? Don't let the drama on the internet distort the real facts. Dude met with Battle two days ago and may want to visit Alabama once before deciding. That's not much drama. A lot of job searches entail a hell of lot more than that. Personally, I'm not taking a job unless I take a trip to see the goods and if possible I'm absolutely taking my wife on that trip too. I don't think Marshall has done anything unreasonable despite the hysterics in the media and internet.

I never thought we would get Marshall but I am taking this delayed announcement as a good sign. If he were staying it seems that he would have wanted that cleared up right away.
WSU wants it cleared up pronto.

I believe there are some behind the scenes deliberations between WSU and Marshall. Some seem to think it's looking better for them now and should know something tonight.

Cooler heads prevail.

It just feels like a sense of urgency when other programs have caught fire and hired their coaches in a whirlwind.

Just back from a meeting. Suffice to say, important people at the University feel VERY good about Marshall - both about this year and the future. Something may break on this today.

Just dragging his feet so much and likely doing so for a better deal from you or a raise from WSU. This one has gone on wayyyy too long. He's milking it for all it's worth.

Don't get me wrong though, he'd still be a good hire for y'all. I just don't like it when coaches and/or their agents do these kind of things.

As the old saying goes, he needs to 'shite or get off the pot.' And the more time he spends on this lessens your chances of landing a good hire if he turns you down. The SEC needs to raise the bar in conference hoops -- it benefits us all in recruiting and gives us more tourney spots to have more legitimacy.

So if Marshall stays at WSU, Smart goes to Texas, and Barnes is already at UT...where does Bama go? They have really put all their eggs in the one basket of Marshall here, and whoever they do hire if Marshall doesn't work out knows he'll be far and away the plan B option...how does that feel?

I think it appears that way b/c of the social media/message boards. In reality, if someone offered you a new job but you'd have to move your family several states away you would likely ask for a couple of days to consider. I've ask for a weekend to consider before on a heckuva lot less than $4M. I've offered jobs to others before who asked for 2-3 days to consider. It's not that long, really. Just seems like it b/c of half a dozen threads about it and 24/7 posts about it in those threads.

Serious question - not a flame - do you think Chizik or Malzahn were the first choice in the years they were hired? We know Bruce Pearl was likely AU's first choice, but Chiz & Gus were not. They didn't care b/c they were given a great opportunity to coach at a top 10-15 program in the country.

Bama Basketball can't offer the same top 10-15 opportunity, but they can give someone a top 10-15 pay day. I doubt the next guy will give a care as long as he thinks it is a good opportunity and he gets paid.

I don't think anyone has hired Archie Miller yet.

It's a big decision and my uninformed guess is he really wants to take the job, but his family isn't on board. I do to think it's dragging his feet if Battle and Bama are okay with him taking the time to make the right decision.

But a key is to not disclose who you have interviewed. Dick Vitale talked about this.

"I personally find it difficult to comprehend why this is played out in the media, because you look embarrassing if you don't complete the deal," he said. "Now the next guy looks like he's second and the next guy looks third. That should all be private. That should all be, I think, between the athletic department and the person they're pursuing with a very simple statement: 'If this gets out, we're withdrawing our offer.'"

My sources are now reporting that Bama may be getting left at the altar.

You may be right about that. That said, I'd hope that Battle sent feelers out as soon as Grant was fired. It likely was nothing more than a quick call back then but that's often the way it works with these things. (Trust me, we Vol fans are pros at how coaching searches work. )

I'll never withdrawl my offer to my #1 choice because a little info somehow got released to the public.
