Anyone else noticed it's only the "successful" schools that are claiming all these players are getting paid out the arse?

My dad was a bag man in the 80's and back than it was 80-90 %. Didn't have stars system back then but paying kids wasnt the problem it was getting them to sign and knowing who to pay. A typical top recruit from Moss Point would get 20k plus in cash from at least 3 or 4 schools. It wasn't perfected as much as it was now. Bama was still the best at it, Auburn was not a threat back then in our area. It seems like we have gone back to the 80's to me

I would say 23%. Not every player is good enough to get paid. Even SMU only paid a handful of their players.

In the Big Ten, I would say 18% are being paid. But that's only because the Big Ten doesn't have any good players. 84% of those 18% play for Ohio State....

Ya see, it was git'n'to'm and then knowin who ta pay, what was the problem.... Typical recruit from Moss Point?? Hell, he'd get 20K PLUS! IN CASH! from at least 3 er 4 schools... wadn't perfected much as it is now. Bama still the best add't. (spit) Auburn just weren't a threat back then.... Seem like were back in the 80's ta me.....

If Arky is paying 80% you guys need to ask for a fricking refund since that we be what 500k per SEC win or something. Rip off even by Bama Auburn standards.

In the SEC 90% are paid. The same as all big schools in other conferences

Bagman sounds so dirty. Mostly they're just normal dudes.

Don't mean to be a name dropping loser, but I'm pretty good friends with Destin Hood. He insinuated that most legit recruits/contributors get taken care of pretty well.

I still kick myself for never asking about details. Although, it's probably information that I don't need to know.

That makes sense to me. I have friend that got over $20,000 back in the 70's before he ever signed anywherer and he wasn't even that good. He ended up at Southern Miss but he received the majority of his money from the state of Florida. He wouldn't say which school.

He had been shown lots of interest from lots of teams but in the end only Southern Miss came through with a scholarship. He turned out to be pretty darn good for them but not pro level.

At Alabama? 0% tBeacon.

At Alabama's rivals: 100%. Even the long snapper at UT is probably getting paid.

A story that I heard about the legendary Johnny Vaught at Ole Miss that involved Archie Manning.

According the story that was told, Vaught was in the room when the Saints and Archie started their negotiation. As they started to negotiate, the Saints' rep wrote a number on a piece of paper and slid it across the table. Vaught reached for it before anyone. After seeing the number, he looked at the Saint's rep and said, "Hell son, he made more than that playing for us."

Then he proceeded to leave the room. Was that just a tactic? Probably, but it sure is funny as hell.

Then why did we suck so bad in the 80s? Obviously, it bag men were overrated.

I actually think it is not as frequent as it used to be. However, it is more sophisticated now. A former Bama coach once said, we never outbid AU for a player, we just had to meet the going rate. It is amazing that Bama accuses AU of trying to buy players including Yeldon, Liner, Foster, Evans, but when they go to Bama, crickets.

I am convinced that Bama bought Yeldon, but what can we say? We tried to buy him and got outbid? We would go on probation for sure. We got Reubin's mom a Job? We would not buy Daddy Evans store? We all saw Liners cash. ?? It is the way of the world and Bama has deep pockets.

I'm not trying to say we don't do shady things like everyone else. I'm just laughing how he said we had the best bag men, while referencing our worst period

In college I lived in a house with 3 scholarship football players at Tennessee. One was a very high profile starter and another was a starter as well. Both families were pretty well off, but none of them were receiving payments or under the table cash.

However they did get almost every meal free when we would eat out off campus.
