The guess is that Bama will have a coach by Friday. Outside of Baby P, I have no idea who they are looking at. I hate hiring the sons of successful coaches, they seldom seem to work out. Bowden, Shula, Etc.

I don't think Baby P is a serious candidate for the job.

Archie Miller, Steve Prohm, beyond that your guess is as good as any.

Miller is the guy you want but the problem is I don't think he's ready to leave Dayton. He's having too much success there with an easy recruiting path. White is another option. He's an up and comer and he would've been our man had Hart not said no to the buyout clause. He's ready to leave so you may have a shot there and he's growing into a very good coach.
Of course, there are several others but I believe in White. It would be a bigger coup than it looks on paper to land him. And who knows maybe Miller is ready for the right amount? But honestly you don't want Baby P. he's just got a name that makes folks think he's good.

Agree. Offer the guy $2.8-$3M. He's making like $1M at Dayton.

agree again

disagree. these "folks" don't think he's good.

If he doesn't take the meeting with Bill Battle and get a number, he doesn't get to use that to get some more money from Wichita. I still think he stays in Wichita with his second kid in HS, but have to applaud y'all for going after him.
Futhermore, get that young 15 yr old teenage girl on campus and take her on a tour of those sorority houses, and the campus life, etc.....I somehow doubt Witchita State can match it.

Yeah really. When I was a teenager, we never discussed moving. I was simply informed.

I agree. We made our pitch with top 5 money and he needs to decide. This does not have to be a situation with Bama begging and Marshall calling all the shots. When you are offering 4 million, we get to have some leverage as well. We don't have to land Marshall to be a winning basketball program. Go to Sean Miller with a 5 million offer and if he says no then start talking to Archie Miller with a 2.5 offer.
I know it sounds cliche, but if 4 million can't convince Marshall and his family to come to Bama, then maybe he is just not the right fit. We don't want a situation where we are contractually stuck with him, but his wife and kids wish they were back in Wichita. Less than 10 years ago Marshall left Winthrop for Charleston, had the press conference, then changed his mind and went back to Winthrop. He seems like someone who has a really difficult time making big decisions.

Well I'd say that those who don't really follow basketball hardcore often see that name and make assumptions. Basketball nerds know better but I'm not so sure about the general audience.

I would be beyond pissed if we hired Pitino. I would literally rather have Grant.

Richard Pitino wouldn't get you anywhere higher up the ladder than you currently are. He's got a solid understanding of the game obviously, recruiting is what I'd be more concerned with. I agree with the above, Archie Miller is a candidate worth going after as well. Seems to have a lot of upside. More established than Ricky Jr.

I agree with all above. Also, Ricky Jr. isnt worth a big contract yet. Maybe one day... but not right now.

Wanted Archie or Dave Rose from the get go. Will take Marshall, but it wouldn't hurt my feelings if he said no and we got Archie.

Agree. Marshall is not the automatic hire that some think he is. He is the best available but still an unknown at the power 5 level especially with recruiting.

No need to tell me of the perils. Kiffin and Dooley were hired back to back based on their names. And while Kiffin looks to be an ok to good OC he's sucked as an HC everywhere he's been. And I don't think I need to explain Dooley *shivers*.
Both were hired on their names and both were hired way too soon in their careers, imo, and bloody awful, especially Dooley but Kiffin failed everywhere too. Let the sons of coaches prove themselves and learn for a while before handing them the keys to a major program.
These guys get hired too soon with no record because of Daddy and it does both the school and them a disservice. They need time to grow and learn like any other coach.

There's a reason Texas wasn't going after. Terrible personality.
