So if the salary figure is actually around 3M, does that mean Texas would be in play again?
This story makes the "blow him away with $$ so Texas won't match Bama " a non-issue now..
I am not sure who I would want in the Smart vs Marshal debate, but I think both could do real well at Texas.

I would imagine but who knows. The only fact I do know is they were paying Barnes up to $3 million if he had made his bonuses. I think about $2.55 million base. So they've certainly been willing to pay that much but I recall reading somewhere they wanted to stay under the $3 million mark, but that's probably as reliable as my beat up Yugo with 200,000 miles.

"Upwards of 3 million dollars" could mean anything especially considering the 6 yr, 25 million dollar number that is floating around. You can announce a possible deal at 3 million while actually offering over $4 milion. That way you're competition (Texas) might lowball him. Of course, Texas could be doing the exact same thing putting out the we won't go over 3 million statement.
