I find this article interesting, explains how Bryant Bank runs Tide Pride and the Alabama Board. How they refuse to file a 990 tax form. ATPB type stuff.

The problem is with the board of trustees itself: a public board representing a public institution on behalf of the people of Alabama, who built it and bought it and supported it and continue to cheer it on.

LINK the houndstooth Family

But it doesn't address the real issue of influence and power. This board doesn't act like a public institution. It acts like a family business, interrelated and dependent, compromised and compromising. It is a family business that, too often, considers its business none of your business.

The Houndstooth Family runs silent.

This board for decades has operated in the smoke and the shadows, thumbing its nose at public records and open meetings laws, discouraging conversation among board members in the light of day. It has operated with a patrician's belief that it knows best, answering only to itself.

We publish our 990 for Tiger Unlimited, our Board is selected in public are two big differences. I just found it interesting, not earth shattering.

The Crimson Tide Foundation - which two years ago bought Nick Saban's house for almost $3.1 million -- is a perfect example. In February AL.com sought IRS filings on that foundation as well as Auburn's similar Tigers Unlimited Foundation. Auburn complied, but Alabama said they no longer file IRS 990s.

Yet the dance goes on, as the family tries to keep it all in the family.

They have been allowed to do it so long, by politicians and by media too scared, too cheap, or too homer to challenge it.

It is about a system that is insidious and incestuous, a tradition of unlimited power that trades unfairly on Alabama loyalty.

In the Houndstooth Family, the will of a powerful few becomes the mandate for all. And you can take that - and all the public money that goes into it - to the bank. As long as you know which one.

ETA: Someone should probable take it to the rant, but it will nothing but BS replies.

not going to lie. I'm not a fan of this being discussed behind our auburn only wall. Something about not being here to defend themselves.

Are they required?

Not filing IRS papers isn't run by the state and it isn't something the IRS just let's slide

We just named our business school after a family who used their influence on the BOT to funnel Auburn construction contracts to their company. You can't be effing serious

People need to just realize that this is how a university system is run. It is extremely corrupt and benefits powerful people willing to get involved. It is one of the few places that gives you TAX DEDUCTIONS FOR BUYING INFLUENCE.

Very similar IMO. This UAB thing might bring some change to their setup. I would not be surprised to see the system split.

If they are truly a foundation then the 990 is required. I think the point is that, if they're no longer a 990, they're a different classification now. Also 990s aren't required to file with the state unless it's a 990T so maybe they're just giving AL.com the finger. Who knows.

Anyone who knows anything about how UA is run knows that Bryant is Yahweh in Tuscaloosa. I worked in govt tax for several years and Greene Group is legendary for being shady. And the governor has and does cover for PBJ

Can we just delete this

1- Ridiculous
2- Not about Auburn
3- The last thing we want is for people to come asking questions about power at universities. We have our own damn skeletons we are trying to hide

I do not think any board involved in higher ed in Alabama could withstand any scrutiny --look at Al A&M and Al State as recent examples. I do support the bill in Alabama that would require education for all BoT members -- not because I think it would change much, but at least then people could not hide behind the fact they did not know...

While I won't defend the OP, I will say that we underwent a scrutiny unlike any that our rivals have experienced in many a moon. If we were still living in the "Colonial Era", that would not have ended the way it did, for us.

I'm actually impressed someone is going after Bryant Jr. in the press. That's a good way to have some people start driving by your house.
