Throwback Thursday - 2000: UAB at LSU

If LSU (2-2) was looking for an easy win on homecoming, the Tigers picked the wrong opponent to schedule between SEC games against Auburn (a loss) and Tennessee (next week). UAB, which moved to Division I-A in '95 and hasn't had a winning season since, came up with one of the biggest wins in the history of the program.
The Blazers held LSU to 263 yards, shutting down the Tigers for nearly three quarters. Tigers quarterback Josh Booty was intercepted four times - once in the end zone - and UAB's defense also caused five fumbles. LSU, under new coach Nick Saban, was called for 13 penalties for 113 yards. LSU had tied the score 10-all on John Corbello's 35-yard field goal with 2:33 left, but the true-footed Rhett Gallego kicked a 32-yard field goal on the final play of the game as UAB upset LSU 13-10 on Saturday night
The game winning kick
And that, my friends, is why you've gotta love college football. Anything can happen when a coach prepares his kids the right way. Never take a Saturday off. Never

That loss was the beginning of the end of Saban's career.

And so began Saban and the crimon tide's obsession with ending the UAB football program.

and just 7 weeks later LSU beat Ole Miss, 20-9 in Oxford.
Go figure.
Go figure.

It's really strange watching that and then realizing UAB no longer has a football program

Far from it. Just an interesting tidbit from 15 years ago that I thought the board would enjoy

I like this one better. You blow a 31-10 lead....you give up a 4th and 15....

It has all become clear now... Saban still scared of UAB, didn't want what happened in 2000 to repeat itself. He probably wishes that he knew his Little Bear in Louisiana to end ULM's program like they have UAB's.
