List is shite.

ETA: And not having Apalachicola, FL on it is embarrassing to whoever wrote it... which looks to obviously being a Yankee, judging by the source and the towns listed.

Looks like he placed his population ceiling at 10,000. No town with 10,001 inhabitants was elgible for his list. Hope this helps some of you cope.

Post re: SEC towns was sarcasm. Have another cup of coffee.

Otherwise:

Apalachicola, FL-2010 population was 2,231

Bisbee AZ-2010 population 5,575

Something tells me they haven't crested 10,000 since 2010.

You were there, that is why it sucked.

Seriously, I was very surprised it was on the list. It's not my idea of a "cool" town either.

Apalach has great seafood and great fishing. That's about it. Still a great town for those two great things, the locals are a different kind of kind though

Did you read the article? Not one SEC town would qualify based upon population....SMDH!

As soon as I saw the link was on CNN, I knew it would have a Northern bias; I was correct. They're desperately trying to reverse the migration trend to the South. And ironically, the very thing they hate, global warming, might well be the incentive for the migration reversal.

Only Starkville, Oxford and Auburn would be considered small towns in the SEC. There are lots and lots of top rated small towns in America, many aren't college towns and none are SEC towns.

Thats all it needs. I love that entire part of the panhandle from St Marks to Panacea over to Appalachicola. Done more fishing and hunting around the St Marks/Wakulla refuge that I care to admit.

Beyond Apalach itself, Mexico Beach has a music fest every year in the fall that is fun. Nothing like driving down to Indian Pass Raw Bar to eat oysters and watch college football on a sunny fall afternoon.

When I was a kid I lived with my Grandparents in Grand Marais because my Grandfather was a Park Ranger at a nearby national monument. I don't remember much but my Grandfather wanted to go back and visit a few years ago so I drove him over. He said he'd forgotten how shitty the town was. I agreed.
