Laye on freshman H-back Chandler Cox

“First of all, he has incredible character. That’s a great thing he beings to the team. He’s an outstanding player. He does everything he’s supposed to do. His steps are great. I think he definitely has a chance to be a big asset to this team.”

Kennion says the defense is learning on the fly with new defensive coordinator Will Muschamp.

"It's a lot more intense with Coach Muschamp," he said. "He's very strict, he's very hard. He's definitely going to voice out his opinions but at the same time he's the best coach there is defensively."

The difference, he said, "it's a lot more defensive-oriented and fundamentally sound. We work on pass, we work on hand drills a lot more than we did last year. We work on tackling way more than we did last year. And also in the film room it's a lot more camaraderie, so there's a lot more communication and a lot more understanding of the defense and the scheme that coach puts out."

This excites me also yet still pisses me off about the defensive product we have put on the field the last several years.

Don't get too happy yet w/ that D. Boom has had issues w/ Frosty & Cass at various times. & flat out got pissed w/ Cass yesterday. Cass better pick his mess up or he'll wish he had gone pro.

I'm not going into specifics of what Boom said but let's just say Cass is not living up to his God given ability.

Is it an effort thing or him just being stupid and not learning the D?

A lot of these guys have been so overhyped and then they come in and don't live up to their abilities it sucks.

Don't forget that we have heard how much better we would be at tackling for years.

Yep. Seems every year we hear

"we're working more on fundamentals"

"tackling"

"things are much more detailed"

I'll wait until I actually see some on-field improvements

I'm sure he's plenty smart. He's just always struggled learning play books.

Football wise he has struggled to learn Johnson's & Roof's playbooks. That could be on those systems or their teaching methods but could also be on Cass's football IQ.

Have you ever spoken with the kid? I got some extra bricks in my garage that could score higher on an IQ test
