Because Leonard Floyd, Jordan Jenkins, and Lorenzo Carter are really fricking good.

Sweet, list their sacks and hurry stats for us.

I think their leader had 7 1/2 sacks or so.

Decent, but nowhere near spectacular.

UGA and UT should battle it out for best DL/DEs in the division this season.

Edit: with UT winning the battle of course

They'll be a top 15 team that will sneak into the top 10, and then Richt it up in a game or two

So, a typical Georgia year

Not going to look them up on my phone, but Floyd was a projected 1st round pick who decided to return, Jenkins was a projected 2nd-3rd round pick that decided to return, and Carter will be a 1st round pick whenever he leaves, barring injury.

I suppose you don't have to believe me, but they're really freaking good.

I'll save you the trouble of looking them up....but all their pass rushing stats were pedestrian. If Floyd was in fact a projected first rounder it was based on potential, because his stats were pretty meh. Again, 7th in the SEC in sacks last year....not 7th in the nation, in the SEC. Nothing that tells me UGA will be "elite" in that category this year. Bama finished 5th BTW.

Yes, but you still have to be good.

Like I said, don't believe me if you don't want to. I'm basing my statement mostly on the eye test, and I don't expect you to since I doubt you watch as much of Georgia as I do.

Fair enough....but at some point the eye test must translate to on the field results/stats or it really means nothing.

Carter is better than Floyd, IMO. QB pressures started increasing when he started playing more.

It's a thread about the upcoming season thats months away. Doesn't it have to be based on potential?

Those three had 15.5 sacks combined last season. That has to be up there in returning production. They're also listed with 44 combined QB hurries, which is bullshite.

I don't disagree with that. A lot of my OP was about new guys stepping up in their roles, so much of that is obviously speculation on potential and expectations.

Bama had 31 sacks in 14 games total yards 205
UGA had 28 sacks in 13 games total yards 231

basically a wash

Onl Mizz(42), MSU(37), UT(35), TEX AM(35) were in the Top 50

UGA didn't have as many passes to defend as a lotta other teams, thus less opportunities.
Here's the SEC ranked by pass attempts defended per sack...

Team....Sacks..pass att. against..pass att per sack

1. Tenn - 35.........377..... 10.8

2. Mizzou - 42.......474..... 11.3

3. Texas A&M - 35....431..... 12.3

4. UGA - 28 .........379..... 13.5

5. Miss St - 37......506..... 13.7

6. Kent - 27 ........377..... 14.0

7. Fla - 30 .........429..... 14.3

8. Miss - 28 ........402..... 14.4

9. Bama - 31 ........493..... 15.9

10. Ark. - 24 ........392..... 16.3

11. Vandy - 20........346..... 17.3

12. Aub. - 21 ........421..... 20.0

13. LSU - 19 .........385..... 20.3

14. USCe - 14 ........390..... 27.9

Georgia's secondary isn't nearly as good as the stats indicate. A lot of the teams they played last year like Auburn, Georgia Tech, Missouri, Florida, and Arkansas weren't especially good passing teams to start with
