So far all the guys committed are players that will be role players early in their careers, and maybe all 4 years.

We signed highly rated freshmen and we saw how that turned out this year relying on them. We shouldn't expect any immediate help out of our current class and that was my point. We need immediate help and aren't going to get it from this class as it now stands.

We definitely need a legit big, but what is needed most is the development of the FR and SO already on the roster.

And the key to that will be keeping them. If they abandon ship, and all of a sudden we are relying on Puryear and VanLeer as freshmen, we will be fortunate to be as good as we are this year.

I'm excited about Terrance Phillips...He plays the way I see a PG playing.

If Van Leer is as good a shooter as hyped, I think he might be able to be a decent role player.

I have no hope for Puryear. Nothing against him personally, I just hate the tweener wing/post players. They aren't big enough to bang in the post and aren't athletic enough to be a wing.

But yeah, development this summer will be huge.

I have no doubt the kid can shoot it. But there's a difference between being great at a game of HORSE and great with a D1 defender in your face.

Add to the fact that we have a ton of those types already. Teki/Allen/Gant and hell, J3 is about that type of player.

I'm not as down on these kids as you are. I have watched a few games when they went up against other players going to power conference schools, and they have more than held their own.
VanLeer ran the kid from JC that's going to Indiana out the gym in one of those games. He was clearly the better player.
Just aren't many freshman that will come in and be stars right away. Most of next years improvement is going to come from current player staying, hitting the gym and weight room, or from JUCO transfers.

Honestly, I'm surprised we managed to hoodwink a couple kids to joining this dumpster fire. I kinda feel sorry for them. (and I make it a point to never feel sorry for anyone who gets a full ride scholarship)

Van Leer can be a zone buster from day 1 in my opinion. These kids just need to have a great off season and we will see where it goes. The Wes Clark injury killed this team. Not that they were on fire before hand, but he kept them in games at least. Shamburger playing 40 minutes a game is tough on him and not an optimal situation.

A very bball savvy friend who goes to hickman and was at the Blue Springs Hickmand game told me Puryear dominated Whitt that game. And this guy loves Whitt. They were matched up on each other. Granted Puryear is 4 inches taller.

Oh yea I was there. Whitt had it going early then Puryear switched to guard him, was quick enough to stay in front of Whitt and shut him down. If I remember Whitt only made 1 of 10 shots or so. It was impressive.

I didn't get to see that game so I'd take your friend's word over mine every day of the week, but I do remember a bunch of retweets from that game. Seemed Puryear had the better 1st half and Whitt the better 2nd half with an edge to Puryear in overall game. 2 completely different positions obviously at the next level. PG versus SF.

@DavidCMorrison: Blue Springs South beats Hickman, 72-60. Kewpies end year at 15-12. Kevin Puryear had 32 in the win.

I was looking over Hickman's schedule, and they got absolutely torched in quite a few games this year. It seems odd for a team with a highly rated PG.
