I was given a fan fashioned from split bamboo. The virgin who was the maker of the fan put her mark on it. I have enjoyed Makers Mark ever since.

I think it's funny that people try to call out others for their "fanhood."

Do you derive some sense of moral superiority from it? I really don't get it...

So you're a Yankee. That explains everything.

Grew up in Kentucky as a huge Kentucky basketball fan. My mom went to school there, my grandparents went to school there, and I went to basketball camps there. It was the only sport I cared about growing up until we moved to Memphis when I was in middle school.

Chose to go to Alabama after our high school basketball team played a tournament there one summer and fell in love with the campus. Plus I didn't like the idea of basically repeating high school with the same group of friends at Ole Miss, Tennessee, or MSU.

I'll always cheer for Bama to beat Kentucky in any sport, but I'll definitely cheer for UK during their 38 or 39 other games. I cheered for them during the mediocrity of Tubby's last few years and the 2 years of Billy G trying to drive the program in to the ground. But I get called a front runner for cheering for where I went to school and the team I've spent my whole life cheering for.

You get called a frontrunner for being a Bama football/UK basketball fan.

That logic would make sense if I didn't attend Bama basketball and baseball games. Or if I didn't cheer for one of the worst teams in the NFL or the smallest market team in the NBA that is from my hometown.

A frontrunner wouldn't cheer for those teams when they stink. I just happen to be a very lucky fan right now.

People's lives change. If we never moved away from Kentucky I would have gone to school there, but we did and I chose a school much closer to home. It was the best decision I ever made.

So why not Alabama or Kentucky in both sports?

I actually thought he explained it quite well.

Kind of the same reason I root for TAMU and Michigan. Parents are alums of both.

The clear #1 in both major sports on an SEC board. Yeah, no bandwagon there.

I do. I just don't care for other UK sports because I never grew up watching any of them. The most I can remember about UK football growing up was a draft special on Tim Couch. I'll still cheer for them when they aren't playing Bama. I've been pretty open about this in the past on this exact board. I watched every UK game I could this year.

RIGHT NOW

Sorry I didn't post here when UK was a mediocre basketball team or that I was still in high school when Saban took over.

Uh no, not just right now. Both are clear #1 in their sports all-time.

Bama hasn't been nearly what they were historically for 90% of my lifetime. Before Calipari got to UK the last time they won a title I was 6.

I know we have a few Kentucky BB and Auburn FB folks in the area just by virtue of a long standing agreement that as long as Auburn has a vet school Kentucky residents can receive in state tuition in that program. A lot of horse industry fans are like that.

As far as I'm concerned the more the merrier.

RTR,

Do your thing. It's sort of funny how other people have expectations of what team you are "supposed" to like.

I have been an Alabama fan since I was old enough to say "Roll Tide". A lot of people at Ole Miss felt I had some sort of obligation to change teams when I went there for grad school. It's funny when you think about it - being so emotionally invested as a fan that you feel moral indignation at someone else's choice of teams.

I had a professor in grad school that was a UK grad so of course he was a UK bball fan. He claimed to be an SEC-football fan, but when asked if he would support Auburn in the BCSBG vs FSU, he said no. He only cheered for Alabama is football even when they played UK, but he claimed to be an SEC fan .

I see more LSU and Auburn alumni stuff in Kentucky than anything else.

The other combo you always see is Florida/UNC, especially in the northeast. Gotta love the guys who choose their favorite schools based on what caps looked fresh the day Lids was running a 2 for 1 sale.

Never respected anybody who rooted for two D1 schools depending on the season.

My wife's entire family (well not really but basically) went to auburn vet school and none are auburn fans. All are 100% UK fans.

Also the vet we take our animals to here in FL is from KY, went to auburn vet school but is 100% UK.

Its not too common for grad/professional school to change or modify someone's fanhood.
