The Pac 12 and B1G seem to be leaning towards seriously considering this. Will be an interesting conversation moving forward in addition to the the new academic requirements for the 2016 recruiting class.

It may very well put the dagger in CBB as I can see more and more HS players opting to go the overseas route for a year or so of pro basketball before becoming eligible for the NBA draft. We shall see.

Stupid. I don't care if some idiot can't handle his shite or doesn't care about college. If he just wants to plays basketball and skate by with bad grades and never graduate, that's on him. The intelligent ones are already both taking school seriously and playing their sport. Don't punish the smart ones by making them sit out for a year because thugs/dummies need to be babied.

Throwing out all the politically correct/EDUMACATION reasons they'll give, what is the advantage to the athletic program for this? I mean, the immediate advantage.

I can absolutely see that. Or the NBA will expand their D-League requirements (the one and done rule rolls with them anyway not the NCAA).
As far as CBB is concerned it's not going to improve the game. Especially if you have no intention of changing other things that aren't as "sexy" that's dragging it down like officiating and rules consistency. There's this assumption that getting rid of one and dones will solve everything. And it's silly considering the very small percentage that go one and done.

Not sure this will pass. Studs only play 3 years in FB before heading to the league. If this were to pass, I could easily see folks attacking it legally. I just don't see how coaches and AD's will vote for this. You have the issue of the 85 in FB. Most schools need some true freshman to field a team, especially special teams. You would have to increase the 85 which means the rich schools (sorry Aburn) will be able to add more scholarships.

Increases in scholarships would have to be considered and I agree it will further the divide between the haves and have nots. I just don't see this passing and the main reason is that the schools will say the increase in the core class requirements is enough to prepare these players for college life.

This is what is really going on here. And I'm fine with it.

Funny how they always align when the other P3 schools are getting the best of them.

Certainly would be a blow to schools whos whole recruiting strategy is early playing time.

Would this apply to female athletes as well?
Article said it would only apply to football and m basketball. All the rest would allow freshman to play which is why I can not see this passing very far before some kids file suit.

Don't play freshmen then. It's that easy.

They aren't going to college to play school.

Agreed, this would be a very dumb rule

Yea if they believe in the cause so much make a conference rule and pitch this new idea as a recruiting benefit over other schools.
