The two best SEC teams of the 1990s.

Who would win in a game between these two teams? You have one of the best defenses in the modern era going up against one of the most prolific offenses of the 1990s.

They probably split a 10 game series. Tough to say in a one game scenario. '92 miami was a juggernaut and Alabama whipped them, but we had several close games that year. Florida lost to the noles that year but their offense was very innovative and tough to stop in that day

Bama D was probably one the best ever. I'll give bama the nod.

Our defense was nothing to sneeze at either. Spurrier brought Stoops in after the Nebraska game.

Spurrier gave our 92 Defense fits. I'd like to say 92 Bama wins with one of the GOAT defenses but I wouldn't trust our offense to score enough to win that game. 1996 Florida would probably win.

Why would you even ask this?

1996 Florida since they both have good defenses and Bama had Jay Barker at QB. Plus Gene's innovative offense.

Gators. Spurrier didn't have a lot of trouble with the 92 Bamako D when they played in 92 to begin with. Langham int won that game. 1996 Gators were a complete team and much better than 92 Gators.

And the 1996 team was a lot better. 28 for them.

28-24 Gators...Bama just a little too limited on offense to win consistently. But, the team speed on that Bama defense would have posed massive problems for the UF offense. Plus, back then, Spurrier hung his QBs out to dry with his protection schemes and Curry?Copeland would have forced a few TOs.

Still, that Gator team just a shade too strong.

1996 Florida is one of the more overrated champions of the 1990s. Alabama 1992 would literally suffocate them.

NCG should have been FSU/Nebraska or FSU/OSU. You should thank Texas every single day of your life.

Yeah, a 2 loss Nebraska who didn't win their conference or an Ohio State team who lost to 7-4 Michigan at home.

They were 1-loss and #3 before they lost to Texas, genius. That is the game that got UF into the NCG - hence...you should thank Texas literally every day of your life.

In a rivalry game. UF 1996 knows a little something about getting a second chance after losing to a rival. The difference between the two teams (in terms of how the voters treated them) is that UF got to play a CCG while OSU didn't.

So, let's review:

UF got into that game because:

(a) Texas miraculously beat Nebraska and
(b) They got to play and beat Alabama in the CCG, whereas OSU had no such opportunity

Who is to say that OSU wouldn't have beaten FSU, too? How can we really be sure UF > OSU that year? We can't, we never will.

Any way you slice it, UF is easily one of the more questionable "champs" of the decade (excluding the split championships, of course, of which there were three).
