Time to Panic or no Big Deal? – UF's 2015 Recruiting Rank

First off- this isn't an attempt to troll UF and I'm fully aware that UF whipped UGA soundly this year.

My question is about UF's 2015 recruiting team rankings:
#94 on Rivals and #79 on 247 (Worst in SEC on both)

I'll admit that I don't normally pay attention to team recruiting rankings very closely besides final rankings, but I was extremely surprised to see UF ranked so low on the major recruiting sites.

I understand that the ranking being so low is largely an issue of quantity and not quality, but still it seems absurdly low.

I assume part of the lack of commitments is due to the fact that it was a forgone conclusion for most of the season that they would have to make a change at HC. I noticed that Michigan is also ranked low for presumably similar reasons.

Now that the HC situation is shored up, I'm sure they will get more commitments, but finishing with anything close to a #80-90 recruiting class would be disastrous right? Do big-time teams making coaching changes like this often make huge jumps in recruiting ranking following the conclusion of the season?

My question has more to do with how they're going to approach this situation. You're not going to take an all new staff and suddenly start flipping a bunch of top recruits from other schools. They may still get Ivey, Cowart, and CeCe when it's all said and done, but what do they do otherwise? Take any and all 3*s that want to come just to fill roster spots? Save the schollies for next year?

If we get Ivey, Cowart, and Jefferson, anything else is gravy after the mess of a recruiting class Muschamp left behind. Two out of three and I'm still OK with it.

They'll probably only get one of those three. Next year will be better.

Well, they have some precariously thin positions, including OL, so I imagine they will have to take numbers there. Sort of like UGA and all the DBs they took late last year. However, a few of those worked out just fine for UGA.

See, that's the thing: we were right to have full faith in Pruitt as a talent evaluator and ace recruiter on such short notice. Dominick Sanders was a 3* and is going to end up a 4 year starter for us at FS (if he doesn't go pro early). Does UF have that luxury in it's staff, someone that is not nly an excellent recruiter but also someone that can identify that so-called diamond in the rough?

What do your numbers overall look like? With attrition, graduation, players leaving early, how many were you looking to take in this class and how much of a hit will this end up being when all is said and done?

I don't pay all that much attention to recruiting but there's a relatively new Gator site with some guys with darn good information and while there is some concern, the general feeling is that there is going to be a very nice flurry of good and great recruits coming.

We will certainly end up taking a warm body or three that will be processed down the road I would imagine. Next year, we are going all UT on everyone and signing 48 'cruits.

Not panicking due to the fact that the cupboard
isn't bare. IMO, We need a couple OL recruits that can contribute. A couple or 3 WRs. A couple pass rushers. A couple LBs. A punter. Would be great to land a solid QB but I think Will Grier will be the QB at UF for the next 4 years. Next year will be key recruiting year for continued improvement.

Not panicking simply because some guys I trust say we will be more than fine when all is said and done. Think we see quite a few commitments in the coming weeks and believe we'll end up with a respectable recruiting class for a coaching transition.

That would be the smart thing. Save the spots for EEs.

Florida's recruiting class should be just fine.

We'll likely flip Jordan Scarlett from Miami and we'll definitely get Martez Ivey on the offensive line. OL is the biggest position of need and we're looking good for Merrick to enroll early next week as well. I feel pretty good about Cowart (less good about CeCe), but even 1 of those 2 will give us 2 of the top 10 recruits in the country.

If McElwain gets the Big 3 (Ivey, Cowart, CeCe) he'll manage to pull in a top 5 class after having only 8 commits the start of the Spring semester. That's absolutely phenomenal

If they pull all 3 that would be pretty amazing but depth and numbers is going to be a problem. Injuries and attrition could put yall in a bad spot is imagine they would start taking any and every player that wants to come play at UF

That Cowart kid is a force to be reckoned with.

To answer your question, no it is not time to panic. We'll revisit this on NSD.
