Kentucky is still #1 but ...

Arkansas & LSU received votes and are on the verge of cracking the Top 25. Florida did not receive a single vote for the first time in years - or so we are assuming.

GoGamecocks: The USC men received 16 votes in this week's AP Top 25. It's the first time since 2009 that USC has received votes.

16 votes for the Gamecock men!

In the meantime Sin Thornwell was named SEC PotW.

Women's basketball, Gamecocks still #1 ...

https://www.nytimes.com/aponline/2015/01/05/sports/ncaabasketball/SEC gamecock women still #1

A'Ja Wilson named Freshman of the Week ... again. Honestly, they just need to start naming her PotW and quit copping-out with the Freshman stuff.

It's consensus that the SEC is the strongest women's basketball conference in the land - not even close. Mizzou is even beginning to make a move and Arkansas almost knocked-off A&M this weekend.

Men's basketball, we've got a long ways to go but it appears we are getting there.

Sweet

I have not been able to find the Week 9 poll yet but I knew Arkansas had received a lot of votes last week.

We need to get four or five back in the poll.

We'd probably be ranked if we didnt go full GrantBall for the last 5 minutes against Wichita

You think the conference will get more than 3 bids?

It's very possible. Kentucky is the only one for sure right now, but I think LSU, 2 of UGA/SC/UF, and Arky are decent possibilities.

Florida being basically eliminated from the tourney already hurts the bid count a lot.

UGA won't make it...not sure why you listed them. I would put a few teams ahead of them.

Pretty darn happy with the 50 votes we got this week. That's 29th. A good week this week and we could be in the top 25!

We're georgia, so you're probably right, but it's way too early to say that we clearly won't.

I mean our RPI and SOS is pretty damn solid right now and we have a fantastic win on our resume. Of our 3 losses, 2 were pretty "good" losses with 1 bad one (in the season opener on teh road).

We finished 2nd in the SEC last year...if we can put together a respectable conference record I don't see any reason at all why we aren't at the very least solidly on the bubble.

No...why does it have to be the team I root for? I am not bashing any teams...I just don't think the SEC gets more than 3 teams in.

I wouldn't count-Florida-out just yet. That's the thing about NCAA Basketball, none of it really matters if you're good enough to play your way in once conference play begins and especially come conference tourney time.

Understood that Kentucky is the 300 pd gorilla, but Florida still has the talent to be dangerous and could get on a serious roll. They come here Wednesday night and they still worry me. Frank Martin cannot coach a lick against Florida for whatever reason - I dunno if it's because he loves them and wants the job down there or if he's waiting on Eddie Munster to leave or what, but Martin always saves his worst coaching games for against the Gators.

I will put up the WBB post for this week after the Vols and Dores play tonight and the other half of the poll comes out tomorrow.

Yesterday was a great day for watching the women and just how tight this conference is now. Ole Miss and Mizzou played good games till the end and the Hogs gave TAMU all they could handle. I am getting the sense one team will win the regular season and a different team will win the tournament. I think every team in the conference is still at least at .500 and expect several upsets before it is all over.

And yet, you keep dodging the question about who gets in before UGA.

UGA certainly cant be written off. That's just silly. RPI in the 20s at the moment.
