It's hard for me to say this and I've held my tongue all season but the guys just doesn't have it anymore. He's a solid DC In CFB as a whole and stats don't lie top 10 defense every year but he is regressing. The decisions he makes are almost sad. He feels the need to blitz a safety when we are already in man coverage? No true pass rusher ever on the field. You have Evans and Tim Williams chilling on the bench. Zero pass rush, no plan to ever contain, mismatch all day in soft coverage because he feels the need to put a 260 LB in coverage. ABOVE ALL: the single most frustrating thing that smart/Saban will not budge on is the secondary. Dre Kirkpatrick and Demarcus milliner are not out there anymore. Play to your players strengths not set them up for failure by ignorantly continuing to get your shite pushed in on bomb throws and wide open guys across the middle. Pruitt may be the answer but I think we burned that bridge.

Damn, some of y'all starting to melt like LSU fans.

There is no better option out there than Kirby.

If you want to call it a melt whatever. I just am tired of seeing the same shite over and over again. Please tell me you actually think he is doing the best we can do with all that fricking talent. He refuses to change anything. The entire point of football is making adjustments. He doesn't make any. Sorry for "melting" I just care about not losing because of the same continual problems that can be fixed schematically.

Jeremy Pruitt. Secondary coach and brilliant blitzer as well as in game coaching guru. I like him and I also like DJ Durkin. But I think the feeling is just from seeing this shite every week and still no change. If we just got beat a different way it wouldn't grind my gears near as bad.

Smart needs to move on. He's been there long enough to become stagnant. Saban made a change at OC when he recognized the problem, and if he doesn't do the same with Kirby then don't expect things to change .

I actually would be on board with Pruitt but not because I think smart is doing a bad job. I would be concerned with how many recruits look elsewhere with Smart leaving though.

Again my issue with Kirby is all season it seems he waits until the 4th quarter to let the D get aggressive. I am starting to think it is more Saban holding our O and D back at times. He is always conservative.

If Kirby left for another gig I do not think we burned any bridge with Pruitt I would say Pruitt burned bridges with UA.

That's your problem. There isn't "all that fricking talent" on that defense, relative to the other defenses we've had. Just look at the LBs. Hightower, Mosley, and Upshaw on the field at the same time. As good as Ragland has been, our LB corps just isn't as talented. Like I've said before, take those recruiting ratings with a dumptruck full of salt. And Saban's stated desired qualities in a CB, for example, is 6-1. As good as Saban and Smart are, they can't coach a 5-10 CB up to 6-1. And that's one of the areas where you've seen our CBs burned...trying to defend taller, more athletic receivers.

This right here. I keep hearing about our front 7 but in truth our strength on D was our DL and only our DL. Players Z Whitley and L Lewis should be able to see this. We need LB depth. We have built it on the L and we are building in the DB but still young.

maybe because he insist on playing lesser talent while the major talent is standing on the sideline watching. we all know of 3 right off the tops of our head that can get after a qb and catch him plus run with a receiver down the middle, sheesh

If they haven't played, how do you know they are more talented? Those recruiting rankings?

Seems to be accurate. Seems like everything he's said about his time here has been a backhanded compliment.

Jeremy Pruitt's name shouldn't be in this discussion. His defense couldn't stop South Carolina and made Florida look like world beaters.
