Foley states that Ross called him up. I think Foley spun the story the way he phrases it, "I never called your coach. I talk to your coach you'll be the first person I call." Translation, I made an offer via an agent but got rejected. Still I love the balls of Ross calling Foley down for meddling with his coach mid-season. The fact he called Foley was a smooth move on his part.

How is it possible that you can derive a translation that is not even remotely implied in the original statement?

To say he never called his coach is a wasted statement. ADs contact agents. It implies a deflection. You deflection when you're guilty.
