From Al.com
quote:

"The work of the Birmingham Business Alliance and its member organizations is vital to our region, and it will be an honor to serve as chairman-elect in 2015 and chairman in 2016 as we continue to build on our positive momentum," Watts said in a statement. "UAB has a longstanding and productive relationship with the BBA through which we have advanced a shared vision of improved economic prosperity for Birmingham and our metropolitan area, as well as a robust knowledge-based economy."

Shortly after the decision to end football became public, the president and CEO of the BBA issued a statement raising some concerns about the decision to end football at UAB. One day later, the BBA's executive committee, of which Watts is a member, issued its own statement in "strong support" of UAB and Watts.

This is a slap in the face to the city of Birmingham and nothing more than a reward for Watts doing the dirty work of the BoT. The Good Ol Boy network takes care of it's own.

Care to provide some context for the 80% of us who don't live in Alabama?

Ray Watts is the President of UAB who was the face of the decision to end football at the university thus making UAB the first school in 20 plus years to do so. Many believe this was done at the behest of the University of Alabama Board of Trustees which is the flagship school of the system. Some blame long held grudges by BoT member Bear Bryant Jr. but I'm of the mind that it has more to do with stymieing and controlling the growth of the city of Birmingham.

The BBA is populated by UA boosters and also includes a BoT member. Watts being chosen to serve as Chairman-Elect within the same week the Faculty Senate proposed a Vote of No Confidence shows how little those in power here fear the thoughts, opinions, and repercussions of the average citizens. I mean the man has been traveling with armed guards but you want him to be the face of your organization???

I keep telling my wife that this shite isn't over. Honestly, I think this maybe the overstep that was needed to separate the universities.
