In 3 years Barry Odom has moved Memphis from 117 in Total D, to 24 in total D. His defense was the #5 scoring defense in the country this year. Just an incredible turnaround as Memphis was an abomination when he arrived.
Also, consider that his Memphis D held Ole Miss 24 points. 7 through the first 3 quarters before the defense tired due to superior depth from the Rebels. This was also when the Ole Miss offense was clicking, and in a 7 game stretch to start the season were held under 30 only twice. Bama and Memphis.
Our Rivals guy said this should be announced by Monday. I know that Muschamp has all the flash/swag and whatever, but the case can be made this is the best DC hire of the offseason.

Muschamp gets more press but Odom is every bit the D coach.

The same case can be made about A&M's hiring of Bud Foster.

This offseason has been unusual, as all the players involved with this have been deathly silent. NO ONE knows anything outside the inner circle. Not Chin Pubes, not Hamm, no one.
The only thing being circulated is that it will be one of:
Gene Chizik
D.J. Durkin
Bud Foster
Greg Mattison
Of course knowing us, it'll be Chizik and he'll bring us to Auburn 2012 lows.

Cheesedick would suck. The others would be a good hire. Foster would be a HR, but damn I have a hard time seeing him leave VT as long as Beamer is there.

Virginia Tech is trying to push Beamer out and allegedly told Foster that he won't be the head coach once Beamer is gone.
Add the fact that his contract expires this season, he hasn't signed his extension, and his annuity only takes him through December...
