So is Jay Jacobs the anti McGarity? He seems to have no problem pulling AU purse

srings to sign Muschamp even with an almost 900K deficit in the Athletic Dept. LINK

Thought this quote was interesting

"Auburn still holds cash reserves of more the $15 million, and Jacobs says the reserve has allowed him the freedom to hire coaches at high prices and allow those coaches to pay assistants freely"

Isn't our cash reserve up to about $70 million now?

Can't imaging what would be coming out of McGarity's mouth if we ever posted a deficit and our reserves were that low.

Just a different mentality. Georgia is making and have steadily advanced our academic standing. They are quite satisfied with the state of the program. The admistration doesn't feel it needs to go into an arms race with the programs based on how the program is performing and the amount of cash the football program brings in. Auburn, Bama, Florida and UT will always out spend us. Get used to it.

Clearly Auburn is all in toward winning football championships. The priority for UGA admins is increasing the academic standing of our university. UGA will spend at what is perceived as an appropriate level to keep our various sports programs competitive. They will not spend excessively to the detriment of our academic mission.

You forgot LSU.

Also, Bama and UF are in much better shape financially than either UT or AU.

I guess you can call it for Championships, but frankly, it is as much or more about not getting outdone by Bama and his job security.
If he hires the top coaches and Auburn loses, he can fire the top coaches and hire the next top coaches...

If he "gives the HC a pool of $" and promotes from within... he will he Assistant AD at UAH within 3 years... it is just a very different culture there... even on the regents and academic side. It is not just about being "better" on the book lernin' side for UGA... it is wanting to appear that UGA is committed to that side...

There is also the alleged moral highground of not wanting to be part of the Jimmy Sexton arms race.... but you can't just put the tip in and then say you didn't technically frick...

... but I want to be clear that UGA can certainly win a Championship with what they have in place. They will just need to have more bounces their way than some other teams...

While I agree with the sentiment you're making, I think they way overpaid for Muschamp. McGarity schooled Jacobs in DC hire this round.

But overall, yea they have a different mentality than us and it's frustrating.

Why do you want to pay our coaches more? Because we went 9-3?

Two deserve a raise Bobo and Friend. Thats it.

That's the problem. We have no sports that you could call competitive on a national level that we haven't invested heavily into. Tennis, golf, and softball have received plenty of support financially. It's not the end all be all, but all things being equal (coaching, playing time, etc.), if you're a prospect that has no previous ties to the university, what's going to draw your attention to this school.

That's debatable. Pruitt still has a lot to prove. Champ is already a proven DC. I think Pruitt will wind up being better, but the Muschamp hire was a homerun.
