“Our defense has played outstanding, and we’ve played some pretty good offenses,” Auburn coach Gus Malzahn said. “It’s the second year in the system. Our front is a very physical front. They’ve done a great job against the run. And our back end has done a great job.

“Even though we’ve got a lot of inexperienced guys -- we’ve got two freshmen running around back there -- I’ve been very pleased with the way those guys have played.”

It went from outstanding to termination in a short time.

Up until the USCe game they had been outstanding. Just fell apart on the back end of the schedule.

Spurrier NEVER should have been able to convert on 3rd and especially 4th downs like he did. Coupled with the penalties then A&M, UGA, and Bama games it was going to be hard for EJ to keep his job.

I just think this shows Gus is willing to do what it takes to field the best team. It's not on the same level, but you can see the similarities with Muschamp and when Bama went after Saban.

Technically, CEJ may be a good DC, but we need someone on the sidelines to chew the kids out when they need it.

Our defense was stellar until MSU beat us. I don't know what happened, but after that I became concerned about the rest of our season.

Good point. Think whitehead ever has the guts to do whatever he did to (in front of) boom? No way. He will set them straight with a quickness

Sad cause Whitehead was solid.

I don't know if he was the problem but can't miss the correlation. And we all know correlation=causation

I was willing to overlook the MSU game as an aberration. Our offense put us in a horrible position by turning the ball over on our first two snaps, on the road against a stellar offense in the biggest home game in the history of their program.

It was the game against the Cocks that made me doubt our defense. With good reason as it turned out.

What he said

We gave them a short field way too much. Hard to defend that. Especially the second TD. Barely any time to catch their breath, and more importantly to go over changes they were going to make before being thrown right back out there.

You damn skippy!
How can you ask kids to respect you when you let a punk like that back on the field?
I know he was a pretty good player for us but he should have never put on an Auburn jersey again after what he did.
