When does the time come that society says we are too hard on our soldiers?

As in bootcamp, in battle, and just in general. It's well known that within all branches of our military that many underlings are treated in a not-so-nice manner by their superiors. They are called names, ridiculed, demeaned, deprived of sleep, underfed, and physically and mentally pushed to their absolute limit. We are hot-handed in today's progressive society, with terrorists touching the hearts of so many with their tales of water boarding and sleep deprivation. One would think the treatment of our own soldiers would yield more negative results than positive ones, and that society would demand better treatment of the men and women who defend this country from the same people we torture.

I saw this quote earlier and couldn't help but assume it'd be offensive to many.

quote:

"Be professional, be polite, but have a plan to kill everyone you meet."
A rule to live by from General James Mattis, from my days in the Marine Corps.

I can't imagine how some modern day Americans feel about such a quote. Surely soldiers could do their jobs without being so insensitive, and should keep in mind that not everyone wants to kill them.

It's gonna be hard to redeem yourself after the pussy-assness of your OP.

You better post a pic of you roundhouse kicking a bear, through a wall, made of tigers.

It's just part of it. For the record, the military is probably the softest that it's ever been when it comes to getting smoked and all that bull shite.

Chalk it up to accelerated personal growth

ETA: you're better than that koala cock of a sob story

I'm thinking most are missing your sarcasm here. If the progressive dictated training in our military, we'd be French.

I'm going to assume this post was meant as sarcasm after reading that part.

Dafuq did I just read?

Like, I honestly don't know what to do with this.

We military members volunteered for this. It's not all fun and games, and I'll be the first to tell you there's a ton of shite I don't like about the job on a day to day basis, but come on, this:

quote:

They are called names, ridiculed, demeaned, deprived of sleep, underfed, and physically and mentally pushed to their absolute limit.

Outside of like SpecOps shite, this just doesn't happen. Hell, at Basic Training, Field Training, and in ROTC at A&M, you'd get in trouble for trying to skip meals or bucking lights out time.

OP is s trying to make a parallel with the torture of dirkas with how our uniformed members are treated in a sarcastic manner. Probably should've used SERE or something of the like rather than bootcamp/basic training, but even that isn't really close...at all.

Gen. Mattis is a fine American who would've held more prestigious positions had he not spoken his mind often. I wish we had more like him, not always saying the popular thing, but what he believed in. Group think is a dangerous thing.

The hardest part of my boot camp training was rolling shirts; second hardest was how little time we had to eat. :bengot:
