@AUBlog: Mel Kiper: "It's another year if you want a WR you can get them." Said Auburn's Sammie Coates & Duke Williams are 1st-2nd round options.

@AUBlog: Mel Kiper says he could see Auburn QB Nick Marshall drafted in the 4th-5th round as a defensive back, maybe as a safety.

@JoelAEricksonAU: Kiper compares Sammie Coates to Alexander Wright, calls him a second-round, possible late-first, says Duke Williams could be similar

Someone call Gus, tell him to let Nick play DB in the bowl game and let JJ qb.

Anyone without O&B heavily tinted glasses knew they'd be thought of as 1/2 round picks.

I'm sorry but I just don't buy any hype on Sammie Coates. You can draft on combine numbers he is going to put up but it's simple. He cannot catch a fricking football.

Yeah, OK. Strong overstatement. He's made countless extremely difficult catches in traffic. Don't be retarded, seriously. Everyone knows that he loses track of the ball...but what is more valuable? A guy that can run past the entire defense and score from anywhere on the field but who happens to drop a few balls, or a guy who can't create separation, can't stretch the field, but who "catches everything"?
Explosive plays are worth more than routine plays. Just like a home run is worth more than a single. Terrell Owens dropped countless balls during his career, in fact he ranked near the top in that statistic ever since they started tracking it.
ProFootballFocus did a three-year study from 2009-2011 on drop rates. DeSean Jackson graded 4th worst with a 12.95% drop rate...on the flip-side Earl Bennett and Kevin Walter graded 1st and 3rd best with 3.15% and 3.38% drop rates. Who's the better receiver on that list?

Here are last year's drop rates for top WR prospects:
Note the worst drop rate belonging to Martavis Bryant, who is currently sitting at 7 touchdowns and 450 yards in only 7 games played for Steelers. You can't teach physical ability, ie: being able to do this:

You're right, Meta. The knock on Julio Jones was his stone hands and we've saw where he was drafted and how he's doing. This conversation is almost pointless.

Sometimes the way Coates struggles to find the long ball in the air, I've wondered if he needs glasses/contact lenses/lasix.

It would be awesome. LOL

I of course hope Coates makes it, but my opinion is he will flounder away. Duke will make it, but he won't.

My biggest issue with Coates is that he looks lost tracking down balls and seems to take an "alternative approach" by catching with his body not hands.
If he can learn to catch consistently in traffic and combine it with deep threat he could be all pro

But Randy Moss said "these days they teach WRs to catch with their hands, back in my day it was just don't let the ball hit the ground."
Sammie has leaned neither

Yes, a guy with over 200 yards receiving in the Iron Bowl doesn't know how to catch.
