This might be huge hire for FSU because it may help with Cowart and CeCe.

Former UAB RB Coach Jody Wright is interviewing for the Director of Player Personnel spot. Hoover HC Josh Niblett on the otherhand is actually looking to interview for an on the field spot for Bama.
Wright has been spending his time lately trying to make sure all the scholarship UAB players find places to transfers to.
Like Niblett, Wright wants an on field spot, but Wright likely wouldn't turn down the DoPP spot if offered.

Does Niblett have a defensive background? Would Saban let him jump to DB coach without spending time in a support role first?

Used to be at Bama in a GA role. Has since lost some hair and gotten fat (it happens). Good dude. Knows the lay of the land at Bama and the challenges/opportunities that exist in recruiting in this conference.
Don't expect anyone to remember this, but he's the one i was talking about in January 2011 when I said someone in football ops told me they weren't confident in Cyrus K b/c AU had been filling his head with stuff about how Bama was "like a prison". (the old AU staff)
Jody gives the info on Cyrus

I'm not sure it will happen, but Niblett has been real adamant about wanting an on field spot.
He apparently coached the DL one year for Alabama in the AL/MS game.
Stranger things have happened though. Lance Thompson use to be a TE coach, Hue Jackson spent a year as a DB after having an exclusively offensive background, and Eric Mangini just got moved from TE coach to DC on the 49ers.
To shoehorn someone in a spot and them move him to another spot next year isn't too unheard of...

I do remember you posting that, and it seemingly came true if only for a day.
Seems like a good guy if he's dedicating his time pounding the pavement and making sure all the UAB players have a place to go.

Like i said, he said "yeah we think so" when i asked if Cyrus was coming to Bama. My point then was that it was not the lock everyone assumed and that cyrus was not a silent like many speculated.
Just looked back at that thread. Some of the comments were pretty crazy. e-cred mattered to people back then way more than it should to any grown man ever.

Is the Smart and Lupoi LB thing official? Feels like we haven't heard squat on our hiring at all. Are we waiting until after NSD?

I heard that Niblett wants out of Hoover. Something about some problems with the locals.

What type of problems? I hope it's not the Rush Propst type.

I don't think so. I don't really know any specifics.

Josh Niblett reminds me a lot of coach Bill Clark. Charismatic and can just flat out coach the game of football.

explain. He has won how many titles in a row. He is being treated as a God. I know people that are part of this program and will reach out. Maybe he is just read to do what Bill Clark did. He has done it all at the HS level and is ready for another challenge

Bill Clark was the dc on my high school football team. He just seems like he has the same attitude as the coaches we have on staff right now. At least as much as I could know about the staff as they are portrayed in public.

Nibbs is wound way too tight in a different way then NS or KS. Cant explain it. He is huge into weight training and would probably make a great S and C coach but I realize that is not what he ultimately wants to do. Good S and C coaches make around 500K and that is a lot more than what HS football coaches make in Alabama.
